Kinda Sad and Interesting...

I was talking to some people about ships the other day and we got on the topic of a specific LGBQT ship that's arguably a fan favorite in the Once fandom (I won't be mentioning the ship here or in the tags for fear of being burned at the stake). And I mentioned how I was curious as to if they claimed someone was homophobic because someone said they didn't ship said ship (it was confirmed as well as other nasty details were brought to my attention that I won't get into here*) because it's something that I'm aware of happening in my old fandom.

So, um, I guess the whole point of this post is NOT SHIPPING LGBQT SHIPS FOR REASONS LIKE:

-Not feeling they have chemistry

-Not thinking the relationship is healthy

-Not perceiving the characters as LGBQT characters (unless they're explicitly shown/stated to be LGBQT)

DOES NOT MAKE YOU HOMOPHOBIC. Okay? Calling someone homophobic because they don't see a FICTIONAL ship the way you do is incredibly stupid. And I honestly think it would discredit the actual homophobia that takes place (I say I think here because I'm a cishet woman and wouldn't know the answer to that statement. If people who identify as LGBQT want to sound off on that/educate me on if this stance/thought process is correct or incorrect, please please feel free to!)in the world today as well as in the past.

Granted, yes, there could be people out there who do not ship things who are genuinely homophobic. But, I really think those people are few and far between.

And I also want to say this really quickly, I'm not saying all shippers are like this. I'm not saying all LGBQT couple shippers are the devil incarnate while cishet couple shippers are saints. No, I'm aware of brutality on both sides (and even divides amongst the shippers themselves). And unfortunately, the bad apples drown out/distract everyone from the peaceful, not obnoxious shippers.

With the ship that sparked this conversation, of the people I talked to, they said they didn't ship it for one or more of the following reasons

-Didn't feel like there's chemistry between the two characters

-Don't like one of the characters in the ship

-Don't think it'd be a healthy relationship

-Are happy with the canon ship that half of the ship is involved in.

TL;DR: Not shipping certain ships doesn't make you homophobic. (And some people in fandoms really need to get a dictionary).

*I will say this in regards to the nasty comments, certain things shouldn't be wished upon anyone just because you don't agree with them. Such wishes are absolutely disgusting and there's no need for them, especially over something as stupid as a fictional ship.

Once GTKY Game

Musical episode: yay or nay?

Yay! It was absolutely a dream come true not only to have everyone singing such great songs, but also to have the Captain Swan wedding!

When did you start watching Once, and do you remember why?

My sister told me to watch it from the very beginning, so when I happened across it while channel surfing, I decided to give it a try. But I just happened to land on the very moment that Peter was begging Ruby as a wolf not to eat him, and so I thought it was some kind of horror take on fairy tales, lol! Then I saw promos about season 4 and was intrigued by the Frozen arc, so I binge watched the first three seasons. (And in context, the Ruby episode wasn’t so horrific, ha ha!) After that, I had to go through the agony of waiting a week for each episode because I was hooked (pun intended).

What made watching Once worthwhile?

It was always cool to see what spin they would put on each fairy tale and what people’s real world personas were like. Plus Captain Swan, of course.

First + Current main ships:

I’ve really only “shipped” Captain Swan. Season one it was just the premise of who everyone in Storybrooke was in Fairy Tale world and whether or not Emma would believe. Then Tallahassee happened . . .

First + Current favorite character?

First was Emma Swan. Now my favorite is Killian Jones.

Favorite arc (Why?)?

I loved all of season three, which also had the best finale ever. I also really loved the Frozen arc. Georgina Haig, Elizabeth Lail, and Elizabeth Mitchell all did a fantastic job. And of course, Captain Swan had their first date and that hot kiss in Rocky Road!

Favorite Plot Twist?

I wouldn’t call them “favorites,” but I have to say the most shocking twists were “Marian was really Zelena all along!” and Emma making Hook a second dark one. Both made even my husband audibly react.

Hardest death to watch?

Both of Killian’s in the Camelot arc, mainly because of how distraught Emma was. I really thought both Colin and Jen deserved Emmys that season for those two scenes alone. (Plus the goodbye in the Underworld.)

This character should have gotten more time?

Ruby, definitely. There were so many female friendships that could have been fantastic, particularly Ruby with Snow, Emma, and Belle. They never really gave Emma strong female friendships, and I think that’s a shame. For that same reason, I would have loved to have seen Elsa again in the finale, though I know the actress may not have been available. Her friendship with Emma was so great to watch, and I would have liked to have seen Emma happy in that aspect of her life as well. (Since the show was always SUPPOSED to be about Emma *AHEM*)

How do you summarize the show to your friends? (max 3 sentences)

All these fairy tale characters have ended up in our world because of a curse, and the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming has to break the curse. Then they have all these adventures traveling between this world and all these other realms. You get these tragic back stories for everyone, and come to find out most of the people are related, lol.

Favorite Once specific trope (think memory wipe, family tree, glowing walky-talkey hearts, head achey timelines . . . )

To be honest, all of these were cool the first time around, and then they got annoying. Even true loves kisses, which by the end were being handed out like candy to every couple except Captain Swan. But I’m not bitter . . .

You don’t have to read my fics for long to know the answer to this: Frozen Swan definitely. A close second that I also write a lot is Ariel and Hook. (I couldn’t even figure out if that one has a shipping name.) And of course, you gotta love Captain Charming!

Favorite dish from Granny’s?

I would probably be Belle and order a cheeseburger and fries and then a slice of chocolate cake.

What part of the newly merged realms would you like to live in?

Storybrooke because I’m a wimp who needs modern comforts, lol!

It would have been cool to see Moana and not just Maui’s hook. My daughter loves Pocahontas, and since her Disney version is completely legend and not fact, surely she could have hung out with Tiger Lily on Neverland. And I have the head canon that Emma and Killian end up with a cocker spaniel named Lady, and then a stray shows up who pines after Lady so long he finally sticks around, so naturally they name him Tramp.

Onceuponaprincess asked: If you could be in the show which character would you be? I am probably most like Belle, but I would have kicked Rumple over that town line way sooner and never looked back. (Sorry Rumbelle shippers!)

You glanced around quickly before you made your way over to the quaint little cottage you’ve been spying on for the past few weeks. You had no idea who owned the cottage, but by the looks of it, they had to have something worth of value inside. Yesterday, you overheard the man inside tell the little girl - who you found out to be his daughter - to be safe when she traveled to her friend's house for the weekend, while he had to go take care of business. So today was the perfect opportunity for you.

Taking one last glance behind you, you pulled out your lock-picking kit and managed to jimmy the lock with no resistance. Grabbing your satchel, you slipped inside before any prying eyes caught the wind of what you were doing. Once safely inside, you quickly started with the dresser next to the door, only to be caught red-handed, by the owner of the house.

“I was wondering when you were going to show up. Tea?” The man said as he prepared two mugs anyways.

“Who are you? What?” At first, you were terrified that you were stupid enough to get caught, but now you were confused. Who in the hell offers a thief tea in the middle of what was supposed to be a robbery?

“Jefferson, welcome to my lovely home. You know, the one you’ve been keeping tabs on for the past few weeks.” Jefferson replied as he leaned against the wall making no move to restrain you due to your previous actions.

“You’re not going to report me to the Queen’s guards?” You asked him as you gripped onto your bag, fully prepared to make a run for it. Instead, he just shrugged, quirking an eyebrow at you.

“Why would I want to turn you over to the Queen, when instead I want to get to know you Y/N?” You jerked your gaze to him, stunned beyond belief. “How do you know who I am?”

“You’re not the only one who’s been keeping tabs on someone,” Jefferson said, as he pushed himself off the wall and sauntered over to you, backing you up against the wall. He slowly slid off the satchel from your shoulder and trailed his hands up your arms resting one on the wall beside your head, while the other traced along the length of your neck. “Now either you can leave empty handed or,” he leaned in closer as his pointer finger ran across the lace of the rim of your bodice sending chills down your spine as it skimmed across the swell of your breast, before dipping down your cleavage to hook onto the silver pendant you found in the dresser.

“You can join me for tea. Your choice.” You gulped when his face was just inches from you, the crackling fire making his eyes darker and more enchanting.

“And what would we do after...tea?” You asked huskily as your breaths mingled. “Oh, I think we can come up with something,” Jefferson said as he closed the distance, crashing his mouth onto yours as you snagged your hands in his hair. You never expected this outcome, but you were glad you decided to rob this place when you did.

Things that we need to leave in 2019:

Editing people out of ops that they paid for. I get it. You want your ship to be canon. You want a photo of the two, but that's just plan rude to someone who paid money to get a photo with their fave(s) for you to take it and edit them out just so you can have a manip.

Shipping real ass people. Come on y'all. It's one thing to say "Oh person x and person y would be cute together" and a totally different thing to be like "Person x and person y are secretly married. Let me overanalyse every little thing they post so I can prove to you that they're secretly married." These are real people with real feelings. And even if they are together and are keeping it extremely low key, it's not our place to share it, to assume it, to spread rumors about it. It's just plain rude and disrespectful. (And of course this ties back into the op thing. Don't edit people out of their ops just so you can get a picture that's not gonna happen organically).
