Inktober Day 24 -- One Dozen

pennies! We have Steve the paperboy at the grocery store after a hard day’s work. It’s particularly hard for him selling papers, as it was told in one of my favourite pre-war stucky stories “The Dud” by @nimmieamee . You can read it here on AO3. 

Just some numbers to put things into perspective. According to  the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics: 12 cents in the 1920s can buy you one of the items listed below:

5 lbs of potatoes

slightly over 1 lb of bread

close to 1 quart of milk 

slightly over 2 lbs of flour

about 1 lb of sugar.
