All of crossguild would be interesting to go suit shopping with I think. With Buggy it’s just the weirdest stylistic adventure, trudging to a high end fabric store to get exactly the flashy fabric he wants, giving it to a tailor who already has the most eyesearing suit custom made for him, spending time debating with him what cut to go for (most likely something that pisses Mihawk off because Buggy likes to get one over him at least in some way and Mihawk is a total traditionalist) before you finally go to town just to go to the nearest party city because Buggy is not above accessorizing with costume parts and feather boas, he especially seems like a blast.

Mihawk is probably the most lowkey “boring” of the three because he’s got a bit of that Steve Jobs mentality. Not really looking to try something new, so you being there is more him gauging the quality and asking you if the suit sits good in the back more than anything. If you suggest something and he considers it it’s a rare opportunity and you should feel honored that he does so. Not entirely boring tough because he likes to make sure that during his fitting you’re completely provided for. Wine and cheese platter and people ready to tend to your every desire. Maybe you’ll leave with some formal wear yourself at the end of the day.

Consider: Buggy + assymetrical suits + the two ex-warlords having a shared aneurysm over it.

I love the idea of Buggy going all out on the non-traditional accessories like it's the 90's. Absolute king of terrible fashion choices in the best possible ways (sorry, Doflo).

I can see Mihawk liking statement fabrics but he would use them very intentionally which is how all his looks come out looking as flawless as they do.

12/10 I will suffer Mihawk's glass cutting remarks about the state of my own fashion choices if it means supping aprétifs while being asked if his butt looks good in this cut.

So to answer your question.

I think that really depends on you lol, I know you came here asking for a second opinion, but I feel like this really is just asking what type of tone and what type of plot beats you want to hit with that tone. Also im probably not the best person to be asking this to see as I’m biased because—

I am personally not someone who likes modern AUs. I feel like characters can easily get washed out by the setting. A lot of times, I feel like the modern setting is just creating characters that I have to relearn about when I come to fanfiction to play around with characters in a setting that I already know. It's lazy, but so am I. It doesn't mean modern AUs can't be amazing; I just don't usually look for them.

Also, I like magic and the fantastical, so having that taken away isn't interesting to me. Sure, it can be a good character study, but I feel it takes away the sort of tone from the original and adds another tone to it, which again isn't bad. It really depends on you! Do you like modern AUs and feel it will add something to your fic? Well then, go right ahead.

But being biased as I am, I do believe this is going to be more about what type of tone you want to set for this. Do you want it to be a sort of fish out of water situation? What could happen if life was better? Just confusing the heck out of Zoro and having bundles of misunderstandings? This I believe can be achieved with either or.

You could even go the horror route, Zoro dropped into a world he doesn't understand with people who are like his people but slightly to the left. A world slightly to the left, no Haki, a different type of world government, rules, and regulations he doesn't understand, technology he doesn't comprehend, even thinking about public school and mandatory education, as well as a body very different than he's used to, etc.

But I also feel like that could take away from the badassness that is Mihawk and Shanks and just puts Zoro with two guys. Like these aren't the Warlord of the Sea and Yonko of Paradise he knows; sure, they share the same face and some mannerisms, but it's just Greg and Dave from accounting. Or maybe you want that. Maybe you want that dissonance that the man I know who beat me, who played me, who will not hesitate to kill me, is maybe in another life, in another world, sweet and kind and loving. Or maybe you want it closer to home? Instead of a modern AU, maybe you want to confuse baby Zoro's memory, that his memories have him realize that, oh, this man would not treat me this way if I were not his son.

Again, I am biased, so take this with a grain of salt. Sometimes, when I'm stuck on questions like this, I'll go find someone I trust and talk out the story and the beats I want to hit. Hey, you can even come to my messages. Just rant to me about it, and eventually, the answer will present itself.

Anyways, hope my general malaise and unconnected rambles helps in anyway. Also, I really like your fic. The idea is bat shit insanely creative and I adore bad shit it’s such an amazing idea. 10/10 will be listlessly waiting for more updates.

anytime zoro compliments you (like genuinely compliments you not one of his cheeky teasing comments), he blushes. it’s only a light blush, but it quickly darkens the second you teasingly say “oooh what’s that???? was that a compliment? oooooh you loooove me!”

seeing you all dressed up gets ace all flustered. of course he thinks you look always amazing, but there’s something about seeing you all dressed up that leaves him speechless (especially if you’re all dressed up for him).

🌹would they say “i love you first”? or would they wait for their s/o to say it?

zoro is most likely to wait for you to say it first. it’s not that he doesn’t feel it, he just wants to be certain that you feel the same way, that you’re as serious about this relationship as he is.

ace could really go either way with this. he can be unpredictable at times. he may just blurt it out as soon as he’s realized how he feels, but at the same time he may wait for you to say it first to confirm that it is love that he is feeling.
