[ 1, 9 and 7 for the ask meme! ]
help me talk tangents about my son.
1: Origins! How did you come up with the concept for your OC?
Atsui’s concept came from the idea of having a former player-turned-manager ( since I didn’t happen to see any OCs with this concept at the time ) to add in that sort of “second party” perspective since that’s not something you see people remembering often!! I mean, at best you can catch it in glimpses from the coaches and benched players — people who know what it’s like from experience and can sympathize but not empathize, if that makes any sense?? ( you might want to google “empathy vs sympathy” if you’re confused. )
7: What does your OC look for in a friend? Do they value friendship a lot?
short story: Atsui places a heavy value on the few friends he keeps around him ( as opposed to the large group of acquaintances he has ), and often unconsciously seeks out people who are friendly and understanding, but also don’t mind butting heads once and a while.
long story: he’s honestly rather fragile when it comes to emotions and ego and because of past events that he tends to seek out people who he can rely on!! the stability is appealing for him because he’s very fond and maybe even a little thirsty for sincere attention and affection, and knowing that there will always be someone there for him is extremely comforting for the times where his emotions get the better of him, and he can’t help but feel small for lack of better phrasing. he knows that he can be irrational and aggressive sometimes as well ( despite denial being a familiar face ), so it helps to know that even when he pulls himself out of his moods, they’ll still be there.
9: What is your OC like when at work school? Are they diligent? Slacker? Do they get along with their co-workers classmates?
I honestly wouldn’t peg Atsui for a diligent worker, but he’s far from a slacker — which is how he got to where he is today. being in a college prep class and a former core member to a very active club activity means that he needs to be capable of juggling both his grades and his responsibilities to his club, something he’s quite skilled at. I’d imagine that he can maintain a B average without much hassle, but considering he no longer has to worry as much about practice after his injury, I wouldn’t doubt that his grades may have risen to an A average with that extra effort.
he does, however, have a nasty habit for developing tunnel vision once he gets into the zone for lack of better words, and often doesn’t notice when it might be time to take a break until he either 1) is physically reminded by his own body, 2) pulled back to consciousness by an outside party, or 3) a combination of the above. it’s how he’s managed to give himself all the sore/stressed muscles and joints he has now, which he has from a combination of over working himself during practice and helping out with the hotel.
as for interpersonal relationships — Atsui is naturally a very social, warm, and friendly person and these traits are often the reason that he often gets on well with others. he has many friends that he can hold conversations with, but only a few of them are friends he would consider “close” — namely his club mates. they’re the ones he spends the most time with, and the proximity is what makes it easy for him to fall into a more familiar ambience.
