Children explore.' - Neil Gaiman @nauticamhousings @omsdive @bootduesseldorf @hecsaquatic @keldan @curry_al • I'm starting my Sunday morning with another unique experience which I hope more and more people will share with their children - a positive interaction with sharks instead of scare films designed to milk our pockets of cash and imprint false perceptions about sharks. What we need is a generation of people who choses Compassion and Empathy over Apathy and Inaction, Hope and Optimism over Doom and Gloom, Love and Understanding over Anger and Hate. In our current situation, we need these qualities more than ever. Just imagine my amazement watching "The Shallows" in a 12 year old boy's mobile phone on a remote island in a 3rd world country. "48 Meters Below" casually being screened at a sidewalk restaurant. " The Meg" on a bus in a far away town and people talking more about the wrong side of it, the sensationalised part of it: that sharks are mindless killers . Technology is wide and far reaching. And if used the right way, it may very well save this planet and our wildlife. • Let me end this post with this beautiful quote. " There is neither happiness nor misery in the world; there is only the comparison of one state with another, nothing more. He who has felt the deepest grief is best able to experience supreme happiness. We must have felt what it is to die, Morrel, that we may appreciate the enjoyments of life. It was first described in 1846 as a species of porpoise based on a skull, which was revised when the first carcasses were observed in 1861. The name "false killer whale" comes from the similar skull characteristics to the killer whale (Orcinus orca). The false killer whale reaches a maximum length of 6 m (20 ft), though size can vary around the world. It is highly sociable, known to form pods of up to 500 members, and can also form pods with other dolphin species, such as bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus). Further, it can form close bonds with other species, as well as partake in sexual and homosexual interactions with them. Conversely, the false killer whale has also been known to feed on other dolphins, though it typically eats squid and fish. It is a deep-diving dolphin, with a maximum recorded depth of 927.5 m (3,043 ft); its maximum speed is around 29 km/h (18 mph). Unfortunately, false killer whales easily adapts to captivity and is kept in several aquariums around the world, though its aggression towards other dolphins makes it less desirable. It is threatened by fishing operations, as it can become entangled in fishing gear. It is drive hunted in some Japanese villages. The false killer whale has a tendency to mass strand given its highly social nature, with the largest stranding consisting of 805 beached at Mar del Plata, Argentina. Filmed with the support of @nauticamhousings @omsdive @keldan @hecsaquatic • The Atlantic spotted dolphin (Stenella frontalis) is a dolphin found in the Gulf Streamof the North Atlantic Ocean. Older members of the species have a very distinctive spotted coloration all over their bodies. Some Atlantic spotted dolphins, particularly some of those are around the Bahamas, have become habituated to human contact. In these areas, cruises to watch and even swim with the dolphins are common. They are usually not held in captivity. Atlantic spotted dolphins are an occasional target of harpoon fishermen, and every year some creatures are trapped and killed in gill nets. This species lives in the mesopelagic layer of the ocean. These dolphins are not threatened by extinction, however, commercial trade may affect their evolution and sustainability. Heaven, or the heavens, is a common religious, cosmological, or transcendent place where beings such as gods, angels, spirits, saints, or venerated ancestors are said to originate, be enthroned, or live. According to the beliefs of some religions, heavenly beings can descend to earth or incarnate, and earthly beings can ascend to heaven in the afterlife, or in exceptional cases enter heaven alive. Heaven is often described as a "higher place", the holiest place, a Paradise, in contrast to hell or the Underworld or the "low places", and universally or conditionally accessible by earthly beings according to various standards of divinity, goodness, piety, faith, or other virtues or right beliefs or simply the will of God. Some believe in the possibility of a heaven on Earth in a World to Come. Another belief is in an axis mundi or world tree which connects the heavens, the terrestrial world, and the underworld. This debris can be and is harmful to marine life who get entangled or even consume the debris. Bring your fins, masks and snorkels (and dive knives/scissors) to help us make China Walls free of fishing debris. This is a One Ocean Global team clean up. We would love for you to come out and meet One Ocean Global Ambassadors while making a difference. Despite the name, porpoising behaviour is seen in dolphins and porpoises, as well as other marine species such as penguins and pinnipeds. When marine mammals are travelling at speed they are forced to stay close to the surface in order to maintain respiration for the energetic exercise. At leisurely cruising speeds below 4.6 m/s, dolphins swim below the water's surface and only briefly expose their blowholes along with up to one third of their body at any one time. This results in little splashing as they have a very streamlined shape. Porpoising occurs mainly when dolphins and porpoises are swimming at speeds greater than 4.6 m/s. Here, jump length is roughly equal to distance traveled when the cetaceans are submerged. This exposes the blowhole for longer which is needed to get enough oxygen to maintain metabolism and therefore high speeds over long periods of time. Studies have also shown that leaping is more energetically efficient than swimming above a certain threshold speed. This is due to the reduction in friction when travelling in air compared to water which saves more energy than is needed to produce the leap. These benefits also outweigh the energy wasted due to the large amount of splashing often seen when groups are porpoising. Porpoising is therefore a result of high speed swimming which cetaceans use for important pursuit and escape activities.
