I want my online identity to show my interests and a bit about my life without giving away too much. When I provide personal examples, I’m going to make sure they aren’t too personal. I decided to make more of my interests prevalent in this blog instead of just posts that we are assigned. I was sharing photos of things I’m interested in before the blog critique. However, after hearing from Gabby and Jae that they really enjoyed the posts I made about music, I decided to reblog more of it. As part of my blog revision, I plan to continue breaking up my assignment posts with pictures relating to my interests. The pictures will likely be of bands, funny pictures, or some Harry Potter related.
I’d like to create an online identity after this class that’s devoted entirely to music. I want to write about, discuss and recommend music to those that visit the blog. The online identity for this blog is more like a trial run so I can work out any bugs before I go with a serious music blog.
For this blog, I want to appeal to an audience of people between ages 13 and 30. I want my audience to be open-minded individuals that are willing to think about posts they read. I have a mixture of musical, literary, and academic posts on here to appeal to people in this age group. The music posts will interest the younger end of the ages while the intellectual digital writing posts will appeal to the older end of the age spectrum. Though I do want my audience to eventually be those interested in concerts, music, and writing. My purpose of this particular blog will be show my large array of interests. I want people to see how digital writing concepts relate to the personal interests I have.
Gabby suggested that I add content related to my English capstone. I’m considering it. I may just put snippets of it up since Tumblr counts as a means of publication, and I want to have a chance to publish some of it elsewhere if possible. I think adding more of my writing will help my audience get to know and see how well-rounded I am. I can do more than type up response posts and reblog band photos. I have a voice, and I plan to share it with my audience.
I hope through my blog, I can develop a following that will give me feedback on some of my personal writing. I’d love to be a part of a participatory culture on Tumblr like Jenkins describes. I don’t have much to change relating to the design of my blog, but I did change my bio to something a bit more descriptive of my interests. I plan to break away from writing it off as a school blog in my bio. I want people to look at it without any prior bias about the fact that I’m being graded on what I post on the blog.
Though I may not use this blog after the class is over, I’ll likely use it to help me in developing the aesthetic for a new blog.
