Streaming short takes
Red Notice: a dumb kinda fun time waster. If Ryan Reynolds snark is your thing, then this is your movie, since that is the best part of it. (to be fair, Reynolds is good at snark)
Cowboy BeBop: I'll keep watching, though I would like it to be better than it is. The opening credits (almost a verbatim copy of the original anime opening credits) are worth a watch anyway.
Squid Game: May return to it in the future, but unbridled nihilism just isn't cutting it for me at the moment.
The Wheel of Time: another one that I'm hoping will improve. The show has its moments, but I can practically see Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones xerox moments all over the place.
Only Murders in the Building: watched this a few weeks ago and again, this is an absolute delight. If you haven't seen it, drop everything and click on episode one.
On the Verge: A Netflix show created by Julie Delpy, about the intersecting lives of four women living in LA. Created for French television, so Delpy's conversations with her husband are in French, though otherwise the characters are American. Probably an inevitable Sex and The City comparison, though this show is a little bit earthier in its attitudes towards sexuality, as well as presenting women coping with both their needs as individuals, and their roles as mothers and as wives/partners. As I said, a bit earthy, and borderline tmi cringe at times, but the journey is worth it. Another show with a great title sequence. The art of the title sequence almost died out on the networks, but seems to be finding a renaissance on the streaming platforms, maybe?
The thing that keeps me going: The final season of The Expanse starts in a couple of weeks.
