Here's a TV question for you -- do you think we'll see them incorporate pieces of the other games as well? By this I mostly mean (for season 1) using Before the Storm as the basis for flashbacks or Amberprice lore or even adjusting the story so that BTS and LIS1 mesh better together. Personally I feel it's likely that Square wants LIS to be a more cohesive "brand" and would want the show to serve as marketing not just for LIS1 but for the other games too, so it wouldn't surprise me. I also sort of suspect if the show is popular enough after s1 to be renewed, we'll see it follow the Double Exposure/Reunion timeline in subsequent seasons. (Not that I'm super keen on that, personally; just feels more likely to me.) I have a harder time imagining them adapting LIS2 or True Colours, mostly because Square seems to have backed off the anthology approach for the games so it seems unlikely to me they'd want it for the TV show.
I'm almost certain they'll create their own continuity, incorporating parts of BtS into Chloe and Rachel's characters, but not exactly sticking to either Dontnod or Deck Nine's version of canon. I haven't watched The End of the F***ing World on Netflix (showrunner Charlie Covell's previous work), but that was also an adaptation (of a comic) and took a few creative liberties while still retaining the darkly comedic tone of the original, which is a good sign for LiS's adaptation hopefully not being overly sanitized for a 2020s audience. There are other adaptational differences we haven't considered yet, like show-only characters and plotlines or subplot expansions.
My biggest point of comparison is TLOU's adaptation because it included Left Behind in season 1, but that was a three-hour interquel DLC. If you take away the soap opera-y plot about Sera and Damon Merrick, then BtS is a relatively short game that focuses on Chloe and Rachel's relationship, and I think that can be included as Chloe-centric flashbacks in season 1. You could even figure out a way to incorporate Farewell in there. A TV show means we can go beyond Max's POV, so we could see some scenes of Chloe by herself, Nathan, Kate, Jefferson, etc. A big chunk of LiS1 is Max walking around and time travel/dialogue puzzles, so you get a lot of screentime back to dedicate to character moments and action setpieces if you take that out too.
I wonder, now that this show will have the benefit of foresight, that there may be call-forwards in season 1. For example, season 1 could include a fun easter egg about LiS2 or True Colors for the longtime fans or even a mention of a younger Alex, Sean, Daniel, or Steph, like how in TLOU, Ellie briefly saw Dina in season 1 in Jackson before they formally met. I think also that the surge in Pricefield's popularity since 2015 means they can make Max and Chloe more overtly romantic from the jump-- it helps that they cast two queer actresses! 😊 I also agree that LiS2 and TC probably won't get adaptations because there just isn't enough demand, and sadly, LiS2's story may be a little too topical in today's political climate.
The biggest thing, though, is that the show will have the foresight to actually make room for a sequel in its season finale. LiS1's endings were so drastically different because Dontnod only intended it to be a standalone. As we all knew for awhile, if you tried to continue it, you'd either have to pick an ending to make canon (the comics), messily consolidate them so that your choice becomes pointless (Double Exposure), or undo the moral dilemma entirely with a massive retcon (Reunion). I really, really hope they figure out some sort of third ending that leaves room for a continuation and still respects the original moral dilemma that DN set up in the first game.
However the show ends will definitely be a clue as to whether the show will be an anthology or not, if the press doesn't reveal it first. If we do move beyond the first game's story, I actually think it would make more sense to adapt the comics, because 1. They're a literary work that we haven't already seen fully voiced and animated 2. Fewer people have read it and have strong opinions about it, which opens it up to more creative liberties 3. Maisy and Tatum are still gonna be in their early twenties when the show wraps, so it would make more sense to do a more direct sequel than jump forward a decade. Of course, that's being generous and assuming this show will even get renewed for a second season, given the trend of sapphic shows getting cancelled... I still don't know how exactly to feel given we haven't seen anything yet.
Thank you for asking!!
look you got screenshotted lmao

He stands, and for a second his arm hovers in the air like it’s caught between gestures. Viktor braces for another clap on the shoulder, but then—
Jayce takes his hand.
Viktor freezes, a shot of adrenaline zapping away his lingering fatigue. For all the thousand pats on the back and shoulder touches and half-way hugs, Jayce has never held Viktor’s hand. So why now, after all this time?
