Elijah - 18. A memory they’d love to change
Goddammit, he broke it again.
Elijah let out a small huff as he observed the broken heating system that was sitting before him, icy blue eyes narrowed in concentration--and mild irritation. This was the second time he’d broken the damn thing and he wished he could just get to the faulty wire that was causing problems in the first place. Now he was likely to get his sisters groaning at him that he’d failed to fix the heater and that it was cold, something that could easily be fixed just by wearing a few more layers of clothing. But he’d try to fix it anyways, as their parents were out on a business trip and the twelve year-old was already quite capable of fixing mechanical pieces himself. At least, what was around their compound, anyways.
Well, he was fixing it himself until his older sister came into the room and plopped down beside him, munching on... something. She was always eating weird things that Elijah just couldn’t see how they were even any good. Which is why he politely declined when Athena offered him some of whatever it was that she was eating, making her shrug.
“So, think you can get it working again, ice prince?”
He scoffed at the nickname and glared at her as he picked up a tool before turning back to the heating system. Living on Venus was a pain but it beat living anywhere else. Just needed a good heating system.
“Go away. You’ll know it’s fixed when it starts to heat up here, Athena.”
“Wow, okay. Rude as ever, little ice prince. I hope you’re not teaching Briar how to be an absolute stick in the mud.”
He just gave her a look paired with a dismissive hum before he went right back to what he was doing, trying to find that damn wire as she got up and walked back out to the kitchen. She could deal with his haughtiness, just like she did all the twelve years he’d been around her.
He just wished he’d said I love you to her before he’d boarded the Zariman with his parents and little sister. And now, she was lost to the fragments of his memory, likely never to be seen or heard from again from the small Tenno. All he was left with her broken flashes of memory and her name: Athena.
