“Chronomaly” is a portmanteau of chrono- (”time”) and anomaly. 

The archetype’s Japanese name is “OOPArts” (”Out-Of-Place Artifacts), which explains the English name. Out-Of-Place Artifacts are relics whose designs and functions are too advanced for the civilization they are attributed to, so the name “Chronomaly” reaffirms how OOPArts are truly anomalies for their time.

Canada - The Giant of Happy Valley This wood carved human torso from Vancouver Island was photographed in the British Museum in the early 20th century. The height of the sculpture is 4 foot 9 inches (1.44 meters), meaning the whole sculpture, assuming it once had legs, would have stood approximately 9 feet (2.74 meters) tall. There is very little information about the sculpture, other than it comes from happy Valley, “Esquivalt” – clearly meaning Esquimalt – a neighboring municipality to the west of Victoria. The next municipality to the west is Colwood, and indeed it has a prominent “Happy Valley Road” running through it into Metchosin. This sculpture does not appear to be a typical North West Coast Canadian sculpture. The wood sculpture is no longer in the British Museum in London and per museum’s record source: “The giant of Happy Valley Esquivalt…. Sent to Professor Flower at Natural History Museum and returned to the owner Left McCallum.” This wood sculpture is an out of place artifact; not a typical North West Coast Canadian sculpture and shows a human figure of giant size. Is it just an oversize sculpture of a human by an artist or is it showing a giant human?
