Imu: Mu will be absent from the Holy Land for a while
Gorosei: !!?
___
Imu's face reveal soon?
One Piece: Chapter 1178
Rambling time!!! Spoilers below <3
(SPOILERS FOR CHAPTER 1178)
The chapter title seems to suggest that the arc is winding down, with the end of both the literal nightmare figures and the metaphorical nightmare scenario the giants were in. The end of a nightmare can also be seen as the end of the night, with Luffy once again bringing back the "dawn"
Whether this is really the ending of the Elbaf Arc or just a lull before things pick back up again will depend on how long it takes for Imu to leave the Holy Land. Supposedly they can also travel through the Abyss pentagram, but I can't really see why Oda would bring the fight back to Elbaf if he's trying to speed the story along, given how hasty these last few chapters have seemed. I imagine it could be a catalyst for how to get the Straw Hats to where he's planned next, since for now with the kids safe they wouldn't have any reason to rush along to Marijoa
(chapter 1130)
Also, the longer they stay in Elbaf the greater the chance that Shanks could show up, since it was in the papers that Dorry and Brogy helped Luffy in Egghead, so it's reasonable for Shanks to assume that Elbaf is where they all headed next. It would depend on if he's ready to have the face off with Luffy already or if he still has other plans
But it feels too early for them to reunite, it should be more towards the very end in my opinion. Shanks was at the beginning of both the story and of Luffy's dream (he only mentions wanting to be King of the Pirates by the end of the first chapter), so he should be at the end of that dream too
.
Obviously the mention of a thick fog reminds me of Thriller Bark and the Florian Triangle (not for the first time this arc), especially those giant shadows we see at the very end of the arc two years ago, though the timeline doesn't match up for it to have been Loki and his crew since he was imprisoned at the base of the Adam Tree six years ago by Shanks
(chapter 490)
The fact that Lola is the person we see along with those shadows also makes me want to tie them (or at least the Florian Triangle) with Loki, as she was there after escaping from a marriage to him (Oda where is that story I need it)
.
Once again Imu bursting out of someone's body really does bring to mind the image of a cordyceps mushroom growing out of the body it took over and controlled. I wonder if this is similar to what they did with Saturn, even if it looks a little different
.
So the Domi Reversi doesn't work on either of them, and it looks like Imu didn't really expect it to anyway. We don't have enough information yet, but there are some possibilities as to why. I'm not sure if there's a difference between this penetrating shadow thing and what Imu did to Dorry and Brogy with the pentagram flipping. The movements are different, but the attack name is the same, so supposedly they're the same move
(chapter 1150)
We've only seen Imu doing the first to Rocks before (though they didn't call it Domi Reversi and we don't see which one they did to the rest of the Davy Clan) and, while he was able to resist in a way that no one else seemed to be able to, he did succumb to it eventually. So whatever is different about Rocks (Davy blood? Pure strength?) is not the same as what Loki and Luffy have going on. None of the others we've seen were Devil Fruit users, so it could be that the "demons" in the fruits cancel out Imu's demon powers. We don't know if Loki is awakened (he doesn't have a hagoromo, at least), but it could also be because they're both mythical, or because they're both zoans (maybe the personality the fruits seem to have blocks the control), or maybe something exclusive to the Nika and Nidghogg models
.
It seems unfair of the giants to complain even after getting help, though I suppose it takes a lot to get rid of decades of resentment. Besides, what Jarul said was only about Loki killing Harald, it doesn't explain the rest of the mischief and damage that Loki caused during his life. And we know the circumstances that led him to act like that, but none of the others do. It was still awful of everyone to have treated a small child like the bringer of all misfortune, but in their minds I'm sure Loki's "misbehaving" had nothing to do with their prejudice and everything to do with him being cursed
It looks especially bad when you remember all the other times where the Straw Hats absolutely wrecked wherever they were fighting, but most of them ended with everyone grateful for their help, like Luffy destroying the Royal Mausoleum in Alabasta or the... entirety of Dressrosa
.
So there really is something special about Chopper that can slap the demon out of people. I'm personally not a fan, but there's a theory that Chopper is the Forest God mentioned in the Second World of the Harley text. In that sense, his ability to expel these demons could be related to his control over (or creation?) of the Devil Fruits
(chapter 1138)
The official translation uses the word "tamed", but in Japanese the verb is 遣わす (tsukawasu), which means to send or dispatch, or to bestow or grant (like a favor or a pardon). So it's more that the Forest God sent forth demons, or he bestowed the demons unto people/the world (in the sense of like the devil fruits' powers helping people). Also, it only says 魔 (ma) which means devil, demon or evil spirit, we the readers are the ones who are associating that with Devil Fruits
Like I said, it's not my favorite theory, but it's still possible. It could also be that Chopper's fruit isn't a normal Human Human Fruit, but some other mythical one. Or even the fact that his fruit is the Human Human one, if he somehow awakened it without knowing (and also without the hagoromo), it could be that he can pass that on to others and bring them back to their senses. It could also be related to the rumble balls
.
As some of us have speculated since chapter 1149, there's a good chance that Biblo managed to save the books after all. Maybe they reversed their ability to gigantify them to make them easier to transport, though I'm not sure how they would've managed to get all the books out of there in time. This would suggest that either they have another ability or there was someone else helping
.
The shading on that heart makes it seem like it's made of metal, and also it looks like Sommers put it inside his head instead of his brain lol
Now why would he have a metal heart? Did Vegapunk have something to do with it? Is it a side effect of the contract he has with Imu? We've seen him age since the flashback, so he can't be a robot. Maybe it's just a normal heart, but then why include it front and center on that panel like that? Is it because Sommers is all about "love" and emotion?
.
We can finally see some of the damage done in Marijoa, though it apparently wasn't enough to reach Imu's castle. Are those whole buildings that are torn to pieces? If so, there's a chance the guards focused on protecting Imu's castle rather than the rest of the Celestial Dragons. The fact that it's shaded dark does remind me of Teach and his fruit, and how he destroyed that village in Banaro Island when he was fighting with Ace
(chapter 441)
It also looks like the kind of damage an earthquake fruit could make. Though honestly I'm still holding out hope that the Revolutionary Army is the one that originally attacked Marijoa. I imagined Teach would get himself involved in some way, since he wants to be officially recognized by the World Government and he has personal beef with Imu and the Celestial Dragons, but the image of the Holy Land on fire should thematically be given to the Revs and Flame Emperor Sabo, in my biased opinion
.
This really makes it seem like Imu is going to Elbaf to finish their fight with Loki and Luffy without the restraints of possessing someone else, though there's always a chance this is a fake out. Imu could be going somewhere else to get leverage over one of them, like they wanted to get the kids to use as hostages over the giants. As I've mentioned, I don't see this leading to a second battle, if only because it looks like Elbaf is tying off the story's loose ends to finish the arc
The children are safe, the books are (probably) safe, even if Sommers gets back up he is vastly outnumbered and outclassed by the Straw Hats, the nightmares are gone, and all that's left is taking care of the fires
Loki needs a conclusion to his problems with the rest of the giants, and preferably one with Hajrudin that ends with them both acknowledging Ida as their mother and starting to mend their relationship
Plus the Straw Hats need a reason to move on to the next place, maybe in search of the last Road Poneglyph. Gaban still needs to do his missionary work and he promised a talk with Luffy by the end of the arc
[The missionary comment is because when he called himself the "missionary of love" in chapter 1139 he used the kanji 伝導師 instead of 伝道師 (dendoushi), which is how you usually write the word missionary. That middle kanji that's different is 導 and means guidance or guide. It makes me think of the Road Poneglyphs, of course, that serve as a guide to Laughtale, and also the verb 導く (michibiku), meaning to guide or lead, is the one Roger used on the Poneglyph in Skypiea, which read
我ここに至りこの文を最果てへと導く I came this far and will guide this document to the very end
(chapter 301)
So there's a good chance he's the "man with a burn scar" that has the last Poneglyph, or can at least tell them where it is]
