One Piece Chapter 822
A quick and dirty reaction post:
- I feel very sorry for Zunisha! Walking around the ocean for 10,000 years with an entire country perched on one’s back sounds both difficult yet tedious, even if he is atoning for a crime. I hope one outcome of this arc will be that he can be freed of this sentence (while doing no harm to Zou the kingdom, of course)
- Thank you, Pedro, for raising awareness about the need for greater species diversity on rescue mission teams. There’s a lot of unchecked human privilege in the One Piece world and even on a supposedly “open” and “egalitarian” ship like the Thousand Sunny, so I’m glad that someone is speaking up about the issue. (/tongue in cheek)
- Nami and Usopp’s friendship really is so precious and organic, I love it. Their dynamic really makes it seem like they might have been friends even without being brought together by a crazy rubber boy.
- YES to the return of Mirage Tempo, YES to reinforcement of Nami’s witch/sorcery imagery (anyone else get a mental call-back to Fata Morgana?), YES to Nami continuing to subvert and reclaim the pejorative “witch” label
- I love that Usopp tries to pull a Nami with the “materials fee” line and is completely shut down. You cannot beat the queen at her own game!
- Zoro’s trying to be super casual about how pumped he is to go to Wano, and Law is trying to be super casual about how badly he wants to bro it up with Zoro. You know these two are going to be drinking whey protein shakes for breakfast and practicing ninjutsu moves the whole way there.
- I think Luffy is really hoping Sanji will get married!
Even Zoro’s taking this a little bit seriously now, and Luffy’s clearly wondering if he can rescue Sanji before they all become Big Mom’s subordinates but somehow after Sanji says “I do.” This is just fascinating to me, that Luffy is so chill with the marriage part of the predicament.
