This is a fascinating picture because it's such a unique sight to see. It's a great summation of Oak Harbor, in general, because of the diversity of what you're seeing. Oak Harbor has so many different people, from all over the world, with different cultures and beliefs, because of the Naval Air Station here. I love how we all live in peace and harmony together here!! ❤️

In the distance, you can see the gorgeous Cascade Mountains.

In front of that, you can see a circular, nipple topped building that contains radar for the Naval aircraft. There a naval officer's housing development surrounding that building. When I first arrived here on Pearl Harbor Day in 1982, I stayed in those quarters. I wasn't in the Navy, but a friend let us stay with them, until we got a house. It was a learning experience to live on a Naval base, that's for sure 😁😁🏡 but that's a story for a different post...

In front of that, you can see a lovely marina, with phenomenal boats of all sizes and shapes and colors!!

Then, there's Oak Harbor Bay, which is part of the Saratoga Passage, which is a branch of the Puget Sound. The Passage runs between Whidbey Island and Camano Island. You can see humpback whales and orcas here a lot of the time!! And seals are everywhere!! The salmon run here, too!! It's a phenomenal waterway!!

And finally, there is City Beach on the shore of downtown Oak Harbor. That's where Petey and I went today. It was great!!

To left of all of this is a branch of the Skagit Valley College and the public library.

To the right are beautiful waterfront homes and open water straight ahead... there's so much to see just in this one photo!! I can't wait to show you the rest of my island!!! ❤️❤️😁😁🏡🥳🎊🎉🌞🌈🐕🫂🫂🎶🙏🏼

What a unique and beautiful collection of things to see all in one photo!! The entire island has so many different and beautiful sites and places to visit. I'm going to do my best to show you all this spectacular island has to offer!! It's a magical place, indeed!! I'm so happy to be home on my island!!🏡🥳🎊🎉🌞🌈🤗❤️❤️🐕🫂🫂🎶💯💥💫✨️🐿🐦‍⬛🐦

OC Kiss Week Day 1: Impulse

WIP: Open Seas

Notes: This scene is actually coming up soon in the canon. We'll see how much changes once I've written the fight that precedes it!

“What were you thinking?” Tess demanded as soon as the door latched into place behind her, cutting them off from the rest of the crew. Fury and fear battered the inside of her rib cage. 

Dorian stared at her, wide-eyed and startled. “Pardon me?”

“What kind of idiot, in the middle of his own ship being boarded, jumps to the attacking ship and puts himself into a situation where he’s wildly outnumbered so he can kill one person?!” She wasn’t yelling, but she approached with enough intensity that he took a step back.

“Me?” He almost tripped over the coat he’d dropped as he continued to retreat from her. “In my defence, that one person was the reason they were winning. If I hadn’t taken the risk to get close enough to kill them, we likely would’ve lost the battle and we’d all be dead by now.”

“Do you have any idea how close you were to dying? The only reason you didn’t get shot in the head is because someone else punched you in the face a moment before the trigger was pulled,” she said. “It’s only because you were knocked on your ass that you’re still standing here!”

“It’s my job to protect my crew.”

“At the expense of your own life? You’re also meant to lead them, which you can’t do if you’re dead!”

Dorian tilted his head, a roguish grin turning up the corners of his mouth. “Were you worried about me, Miss Bowen?”

It was her turn to stare, her angry words vanishing in the face of the accusation. He’d stopped his retreat and they were only a handswidth apart.  

“I think you must’ve been if you’re this upset with me,” he continued, his grin growing. “Have you grown fond of me?”

A dozen retorts born from her frustration and anger ran through her mind—don’t be ridiculous, I just need you to get me home, I don’t make a habit of becoming attached to people determined to throw themselves into danger—but none of them felt right. 

She made a sound of aggravation, then grabbed the front of his shirt and kissed him. 

It was hard and fast, fuelled by the emotional mess inside of her spilling over into impulsive action. There was no logic, no plan, no thought of consequences. Just a desperate need for closeness.

Dorian’s hand settled on her waist, the other on the small of her back to pull her closer, and the warmth of his skin through her dress sent shivers of want through her.

This was not allowed. 

She broke the kiss and forced herself away until his hands dropped to his sides. “I apologize.”

He looked at her with guarded wonder. “Just when I thought you were done surprising me.”

“It won’t happen again. Excuse me.” She turned on her heel and hurried from the room, cursing her slip of self-control.

WEDNESDAY'S WEEKLY POETRY PROMPTS: 7/16/25 ~ DOWN BY THE BAY

DOWN BY THE BAY © 2025 – G. Smith (BMI) ==================== Morning under the palm trees, Breakers down the beach. The last stars fading away, Just barely out of reach. The sun clears the horizon, Clouds break before the dawn. Blue skies, nothing but blue skies, A hot one’s coming on.

I walk along the high tide line, Soft sand and broken shells; Then out along the pier, Warming wood and fresh fish smells. I find my spot and bait a hook, Wait to make my cast. Another day like the one before, And the weeks before just past.

Down by the bay, Looking out at open seas; Watching the sun climb high, Tasting the salty breeze. Another day in paradise. Another day, brand new, Full of the same old same old – Getting over you; Full of the same old same old – Getting over you.

I break for lunch and find some shade, Tired of feeding the sharks. Take a pull of a once cold one, Watching the water go dark. Squalls out on the Gulf Stream; Pack things up and put them away; Head back to the shoreline, Time to call it a day.

Down by the bay, Looking out at open seas; Watching the moon climb high, Tasting the salty breeze. Another day in paradise, Coming to an end; And when tomorrow rises up, I’ll get up and do it again, again. And when tomorrow rises up, I’ll get up and do it again.

My character in our campaign had to be retired after being aged way up by a ghost’s curse - so here’s my replacement! This is Neneke Abara, the human Open Seas Paladin! Neneke is a Wavedancer hailing from coastal city of Syhone. Neneke has sworn the Oath of the Sacred Libertine, swearing to Syhone a life of divine freedom -  to have no home but her own heart. It’s her duty to wander Oreth, living in true freedom, planting the seeds of joy and defending against evils that would see such goodness destroyed.

After she was released from her bonds, the goddess of the seas felt like herself again. She had lost her love in the maelstrom she’d created during the final battle between the pirates and the Company... but she still felt betrayed by Davy Jones. And as she enjoyed the freedom of the seas again, she found a certain sailor she needed to pay a visit to.

Coming upon the dinghy, she ceased all the winds and calmed the waters beneath the boat before rising from the water in her human form. “Jack Sparrow,” She greeted, the familiar cheeky smile on her face. “Ya lost da Pearl again... but where ya be headin’ next? Hmm? Ya weren’a so keen ta see me be freed... an’ yet... here I be.”

She stepped into the little craft and she tilted her head. “Are ya wantin’ some ‘elp ta git da Pearl?” She asked with a smirk.
