Reflections on Openness
I have written a number of times about my learning experiences through Open Networked Learning. ONL is an online course that is run by a consortia of universities mostly based in Sweden and South Africa, which freely offers (mostly) academics the opportunity to learn about openly networked pedagogy, and how it might be effectively embedded into tertiary education. I have reflected on my…

🇬🇧When to say yes or not? I notice when I meet entrepreneurs that they more often say yes, like people who have a jobs. Flexibility, openness, risk is part of our common activities. I do not know if it's right. Well, I know if I say no, I will not know anything new. 💡my website: www.michalbotansky.com 🔼🔼🔼 . . No čo viem, ak poviem nie, nič nové sa nedozviem. 💡my website: www.michalbotansky.com 🔼🔼🔼 . . #nasezazitky #sexizadok #mything #slovakia #nitra #zlatemoravce #vrable #mypicture #documenting #theevefrydayproject #dontquityourdaydream #bevisuallyinspired #photooftheday #picoftheday #unlimitedadventure #visualoflife #liveauthentic #inspiration #instacool #igers #quotes #branding #doer #notaguru #motivation #nevergiveup #sayyes #risk #flexibility #opennes (at Vráble)

(Herman Hertzberger 2013:17)
Perfectly unexpected friend
Here I am again, just in awe of how this surgery has brought me an opportunity to explore and be touched by something I did not foresee. Since people at work knew I was going to be having surgery many reached out and said they would love to come visit or bring things to help me with my recovery. Some of these people are my friends, and some I could consider to be friendly. Today, I got a gift. I got to really talk to and start to get to know one of these “friendly” people, and she has already began to make an impact on my life.
This woman has been an inspiration to me at work. She always seems to be in good spirits and to have a fun-lovingg attitude; so, I was excited to hang out and chat a little. I was weary for our meeting, because my throat has been in a lot of pain. I didn’t know if I would be able to talk much, but I did’t have much trouble at all! We actually talked for the longest period of time that I have been able to talk to anyone, and I do not believe it was a coincidence! It was supposed to be. We had such a spiritually and emotionally supportive/encouraging conversation. I honestly felt that we were meant to bring out an awaking in each other today.
I met her at my favorite coffee shop around the corner from my home, and immediately I felt inclined to talk to her about the books that I have been reading (Outrageous Openness and The Game of Life and how to Play it), which didn’t come as a suppose to me seems they are playing such major roles in my pursuit of life right now. However, her desire to want to keep talking about them, and offer up her ideas on similar topics made the conversation incredibly stimulating, while creating an outstanding sense of peace. I hate to use this word, but it was remarkably refreshing! I felt like I was being opened up to a well of nourishment for my soul. I did not want the conversation to end, and I was intrigued with all she spoke. We had more in common then I would have thought, and she was open to philosophies and ideas about life that are not common, or accepted by all people. I told her about things that have happened to me spiritually in the past, things that can be hard to share, and told her interests of trying to revisit those places. I told her that I was going to go see a Shaman this week, and her response was, “I have a friend that does spiritual readings. If you want I can connect you two.” (jaw-hitting the floor) I was in shock. I guess I shouldn’t be with all that is happening, but being the human I am I had my preconceived notions that she would think I was a little corky (perhaps crazy), and in no way was I expecting she would be able to help hook me up with another spiritual guide. Immediately I thanked God that I had encountered this illness, and had to have this surgery! I man because am going through all of this within this time, a circumstance for more growth has been created.
I feel that I have developed a healthy (and different kind) of bond to this woman. And not only that, but she is able to help guide me down my path of discovery at a time when I am welcome to the exploration. It IS all the Divine Will! I am having a hard time being able to put into words how “perfect,” “right,” “comfortable” it all feels. I am at a place of complete contentment, joy, and astonishment right now. I do NOT have to worry. What will be will be if I let it! I need to open myself up to more of these opportunities. To reach out beyond my “safe space.”
I am not saying this to toot my own horn, but I tend to make friends easily. However, I feel a different fulfillment with my union today. I am grateful that this woman and I connected. I am interested to see how this friendship could blossom into one of nourishment and promotion on an awaking level. Thank you for allowing yourself to just be with me today. I am humbled and honored.
Closed mouth, Open heart
I have been put upon a journey. It has been assigned to me to take on my life. I have been ill for the past two and a half months. With only one solid diagnosis of Strep, many unexplainable aliments, plus a history of upper respiratory issues and unreasonable amounts of cycles on antibiotics... it was decided. My tonsils were coming out. Now, it seems like whats the big deal? People get their tonsils out everyday. However, to me it’s a symbol. You see my tonsils looked fine. They were not inflamed, sure they had some issues as most do, but for the most part they seemed to be just fine. They were on the surface “nice looking”, and “normal”. However, once the doctor really got in there an saw what was happening, she said, “Those things really needed to come out!” I’ll spare you the gruesome details, but the point is they were toxic. So many things in our lives these days look “fine,” “normal,” “follow the standard,” or may even seem to be “highly functioning,” but within us are actually highly toxic. And... “they need to come out!”
I have been on a journey to better myself, on many different levels for years and years. However, in the past 3 weeks something in my heart has sparked a change like I have never felt before. I honestly cannot explain the feeling. It just seems that everything is aligning to guide me to an openness I have never seen within myself before. I am ready to try anything and surrender to the Divine Will that is laid before me. In the past, I have closed off and shut down large parts of myself in the past due to fear (many different kinds), and I am ready for those piece of myself to be stimulated, explored, and ratified. I cannot help but wonder, if shutting down parts of yourself will in the end cause sickness, due to the internal struggle to repress.
I am looking on this past 2 and a half months of illness as a gift. It broke me down, made me scared, feel out of control, not have the power to “take care of myself” in my normal ways, question different aspects of my life, and generally just freak me out. Until I thought, “Why?” “How is any of this helping me?” Generally, I am a practicer of positive affirmations and mindsets, but doing so lately has seemed daunting and ill effective. Honestly, I think things in y life “seemed” to be going just fine, and, therefore, when I was speaking my affirmations I wasn’t fully invested. Now I realize, things were not going just “fine.” What looked just fine on the outside has been suffocating me and causing me internal wear and tear that no one, not even myself could see. One would think that now being in a lot of physical pain, and having to deal with a recovery I would be solely focused on that. I am seeing such a bigger picture. I am focused on the recovery of my life. I feel like this illness has given me a gift to heal into a new space, and is providing me a open door to an open heart full of possibilities!
Some things I have been doing to help my journey in the past few weeks:
I started to read Outrageous Openness by Tosha Silver. Do yourself a life changing favor and start reading this book NOW!
I have scheduled an appt to see a Shaman (I am beyond excited)
I am paying close attention to what I am unintentionally drawing towards me.
I have been reflection and talking through things, being open, with my friends. Evermore, my sister and I have been talking about the possible of what an undetermined tomorrow can hold.
I have been looking at everything as an opportunity that I may not be able to explain, but will somehow get me to my divine will for this life.
I have been exploring discomfort in my body.
I have been making mistakes!
I am blessed and excited to see where I am headed within the openness!
I'm at a restructuring point. I'm not emotionally stable. I need openness, honesty, and communication. I can't handle bs, nor will I put up with it. I've had enough experiences and lessons to where I will think with my brain and do what's best for me, and if it ends up breaking my heart, if we aren't growing, or working together as a team then it's either done, or it's time for a break. There is someone in particular which had caused me to declare this, but it goes for everyone around me.
openness, honesty, communication.
