This new still from Empire Magazine reminded me about my absolute love for the Predator series. And as such, I wanted to announce something I've been working on at my DeviantArt: an AvP AU!

Based on the game Aliens: Infestation, the old Kenner toyline, Concrete Jungle, and more, Operation: Aliens is going to be a series full of thrills and excitement. It'll go into an even more futuristic version of the series, including more advanced weapons and armor. And the most unique part? The Yautja are now working with humanity! Yeah, two of the series' main characters are Yautja who work amongst the Colonial Marines!

July 10th 2025: Operation Aliens (Hypothetical Show. Not actually a real show)

So, we're switching things up a bit today. I won't be discussing (Or just posting) a show that actually aired today, but one that was almost a thing.

Kenner Toys launched a multimedia promotion for their 1986 toyline for the masterpiece that was James Cameron's Aliens. Toys, comic books, board games, etc. A persistent rumor was, that a cartoon series was in development and a pilot was actually created.

Unfortunately, that's not true. While Kenner *did* pitch the idea to FOX Kids, that's where it started and ended. There was no way in hell that they would greenlight an R-rated property to be modified into a children's show. They were also completely disinterested in "kid-ifying" their property, and turning it into children's entertainment.

Also, just from the production stills?

This would have scared the hell out of children. Yes, lots of children can handle a surprising amount of scary stuff, so there's no doubt there'd be some that would watch it, but Jesus Christ

If this had ever seen the light of day, it would have fucking tanked. It would have been too scary for kids, and too kid-friendly for adults, like in 1979 when Disney released The Black Hole. Sure, there was lots to appreciate, and it was actually really good on it's own, but audiences weren't sure who the film was for.

Still, I lament that rumors of an unaired pilot are false. I'd like to poke my head into the universe where this actually got made, and see what they'd make with it.

OPERATION ALIENS

Nowadays it’s common knowledge that in the early 90s there were plans for an Aliens cartoon called ‘Operation: Aliens’. It was expected to promote toys for kids, similar to other cartoons based on adult movies back then.

All there is available of the cartoon itself are a bunch of stills of either the pilot or the opening (or the opening based on the pilot). But merchandise was still made under that name.

And I wonder. Kenner was the company that made the Aliens toys back then. They also made plenty of Predator toys. Had the Aliens cartoon been a thing, wouldn’t a Predator cartoon be the logical next step?

And had there been plans for a Predator cartoon, wouldn’t it be convenient to promote it through the already existing Aliens cartoon? Have a predator and the main characters appear in an Aliens episode?

And since the gimmick of the Alien cartoon would have been that the aliens take different forms based on animals each episode, would an episode with a Predator mean an appearence of the Predalien?

We will never know.
