Look Back At It

Over the years, I’ve done some pretty phenomenal closet makeovers, if I do say so myself. I thought it would be as nice a time as any to do a quick recap at some top closets I’ve taken from messy to gorgeous.

Operation Closet: Will

When we moved into our apartment a little over six months ago, I was quick to claim the two best closets. “I’m a closet organizer, I need the better closets!” I proclaimed. And to my surprise, my boyfriend wasn’t even upset. He found comfort in knowing he had a walk-in closet of his own, and paid no mind to the fact that my two closets may or not may be “better” than his. 

While his closet took a little bit of finagling – it is extremely long and narrow and has only one small rod – it ended up working out great for his wardrobe and needs. Since he doesn’t have many hanging clothes, the small rod was just enough space for him. It even spared him enough room to hang some of his nicer denim, which shouldn’t be folded.

Below this hanging area, we were able to tuck away a shoe rack. This is actually the same Bed Bath and Beyond shoe rack I have in my closet. All of his shoes fit seamlessly on this rack. 

Across the way, the built-in shelves were a great way for him to display all of his khakis, tees, and sweaters. He likes to be able to see everything so he loved having open shelving. Of course, I helped with the organization here and made sure his shirts were divided by sleeve length (short sleeve v. long sleeve) and then subdivided by color. We’ll see how long this lasts, though!

Finally, we added a wire dresser from IKEA below his open shelves, much like I have in my closet. Here, he houses all of his undergarments, bathing suits, socks, and the like. 

As a way to help Will stay organized, I added two hampers to his closet. This way, he has no reason to leave his clothes on the floor, as he has plenty of hamper space to store all of his dirty clothes. Also, to motivate him to keep his closet nice and tidy, we added some little personality touches: his skateboard, art, and favorite hat.
