As part of my IB Art course and my activities in the Harare's Children's Home (HCH), myself and a group of other student decided to go out to the HCH with papers and paints, and get the orphans to be creative, draw and paint.
Many children drew for us and some even agreed to share their life story with us. This was an incredible experience because it was the first time that the truly opened to us.
These kids are just a small portion of a world wide problem where children are left with no one to take care of them. They go through a very tough time as the grow up in a place like that, unable to honestly express themselves to others and consistently competing for love or attention.
Being there, surrounded by these beautiful children who would literally fight for your attention, is probably one of nicest things. leaving though is hard. It like this big stone pulling you down from the inside.
They run after the bus and they wave you goodbye. And as you are driving off you feel their traces and body feels heavy.
You are tired, exhausted actually. Not from running around or physically playing with the kids but from feeling this pain just for a little bit. From seeing the way they can unexpectedly start a crazy fight with each other over a candy. From seeing how some kids are pushed or beaten up by others and the moms in the home don't even blink. Then you realize that's their routine, and they will probably live like this for many years.

This book is a beautiful journey of the discovery of beauty.
The main character Terra has a port wine stain birthmark on her face, which she hates more then anything.
This book is all about Terra learning what beauty really is, how beauty makes you feel, and how she's beautiful even if other people don't think so.
The part in this book that gave me shivers and made me cry was when Terra was in the Chinese orphanage and sees a little girl with a birthmark similar to her own, and she goes and washes off all her make up and calls the girl beautiful.
It was just heart warming and enlightening.

Iftar Distribution in Orphanages, Indonesia
Each Ramadan, Muslim Aid Indonesia, provide children living in orphanages with iftar in the provinces of Aceh, West Sumatera, Jakarta and Yogyakarta. More than 2000 orphans enjoy Iftar with MAI, while up to 240 Ramadan food packets consisting of basic food has been distributed to the orphanages in these 4 provinces. In West Sumatera, Ramadan packets were also distributed to the survivors of flash food that hit this area on 24 July 2012. One of the orphans from Al Islah orphanage, Banda Aceh, Muhammad Syukri (14 Years) said that he is very grateful with the Ramadan packet from Muslim Aid. “Receiving this packet enables us to enjoy more nutritious food and we can feel what other kids with both parents still with them experience”, he adds. Syukri lost his mother whilst very young and lost his father during the Aceh conflict. Whilst talking to Muslim Aid, he said that he wants to be an Islamic teacher, so he will have more knowledge about Islam, and can pray for parents and families.
