OPPOSITE/BIZZARO SIDES AU
(All the sides but their opposite)
For all of these, I started with the prompt of if they looked in a mirror, who would they be most horrified of becoming? I wanted to somehow work in Thomas’s opinion on the most out of character thing the sides would say, personality wise from his ‘We Take Requests Video’ which includes:
Janus: “I liKE PAncAkES WiTh mARSHmalloWS on tOp! YIPPE!~” (Thank you Thomas)
Remus: “Hey guys, could we just chill out, just to be respectful?”
Logan: “I liKE PAncAkES and suNShine! Weehehe!~” (Thank you Tayln)
Patton: “Fuck”/Anything with a curse word.
Virgil: “I liKE PAncAkES WiTh mARSHmalloWS on tOp! hehehe!~” (Thank you Joan)
Obviously some of these are jokes but I think it’s at least a good look into what their personalities would be like. (Roman being harsh and dull, Janus, Logan, and Virgil being overly cheerful, Remus being chill, and Patton being vulgar.)
I then started to think about what would be the opposite of each of their roles. A few of them were pretty simple to figure out the concept of, but I actually had a lot of trouble figuring out the exact word that I wanted to use to describe them. Let’s get into it.
Roman: I would imagine him to represent a lack of commitment maybe artistic block. unlike the actual reality, he would represent the evil twin with Remus being the “good guy”. he would absolutely hate musicals and basically anything that is romantic. I see him as like a corporate drone. I finally landed on him representing the concept of Criticism, as it discourages creative thinking. Criticism is the act of pointing out faults, mistakes, or weaknesses in someone or something, often accompanied by a judgment. It involves expressing disapproval or analyzing what is wrong, though it can sometimes be constructive feedback designed to help improve a situation, person, or piece of work. I would make Roman overly judgmental of other’s work, along with his own work, to the point where he doesn’t want to create anything at all due to judgement.
Janus: Janus is more difficult because I could see him representing either honesty or a lack of care for one’s own person… So I decided to make him represent Sacrifice. Sacrifice is the voluntary surrender of something valuable—such as time, resources, safety, or personal desires—for a greater purpose, goal, or the well-being of others. It represents a "giving up" of personal comfort for a higher value or to prevent a negative outcome. I made his design with minimal clothing and jewelry, as he probably gave it away to others, and I made him look like he’s wasting away, as he probably gave away his meals to others who might need it more than him. At first he seems very altruistic, however over time he starts to create an obsession with not keeping anything and ignoring his own suffering. He would be a very open and honest person, hating keeping things from others, and is very reliant on group approval.
Remus: I had no clue what role Remus would play, but I knew that I wanted him to be a germaphobe, or a hypochondriac. I drew him in a hazmat suit, gloves, and a mask (Of course his mask has a printed mustache on it, why do you ask?). I would imagine him to be very wholesome and friendly, he hates foul language and gore; He passes out if someone even mentions blood or guts. Then i decided that Remus should represent Censorship. Censorship is the suppression or control of speech, public communication, or information, deemed inappropriate. It often seems to specifically target sexual, political, or offensive material and block it.
Patton: Patton’s just a fucking asshole. He would represent Apathy, which is defined as a loss of interest in relation to social or emotional situations (a state of indifferent mood). Apathy is presented as a lack of feeling, interest or any particular concern about a specific situation, or life in general. Patton would be cruel, mean, unjust, and sadistic. He would not care for sentiment and would always see the worst in the world. I decided to go for a punk vibe for his outfit to make him look cold and aggressive. He would hate every single animal (except for spiders) and would purposefully try to injure people by tripping them or pushing them.
Logan: Logan is by far my favorite one to draw and visualize, though I had a harder time coming up with what the actual role would be called. I knew that I wanted him to be absolutely moronic, slobbish. I eventually settled on Irrationality, which literally just means not logical or reasonable. He would act like a drunkard 24/7 (Slurred speech, talking loudly, nonsensical chatter, becoming overly emotional, swaying and lack of coordination, diminished inhibitions, and memory issues) He’d only eat junk food, and HATE jam with every fiber of his being. He has no care about appearances or looking foolish, and he often tries to make himself the butt of the joke. He’s very childish and clingy, and will often not think of other’s wishes. He’s very lazy, and is unwilling to help anyone.
Virgil: Virgil was also a tough one… what is the opposite of emo?? I knew right away that I wanted to make him represent Recklessness, because if have a reckless attitude, you aren't concerned about what happens to yourself or others who are affected by your actions, which is the opposite of anxious… but I was stuck with the theme. I thought about making him a jock, a nerd, a stoner, a hippie, and a prep… but then I landed on the style of Y2K… for some reason. This bizzaro version of Virgil is very friendly, outgoing, and social. He will always speak his truth and doesn’t really give a damn what other people say about him. He’s incredibly optimistic and ditzy, and often forgets things like locking doors, and constantly leaves things at home. He lives by the expression “YOLO”, and would probably do anything for 2 dollars. He would start out as confidence and slowly transform into Recklessness.
