how's school going? (formerly lackadaisicallexicon lmao)

School’s gone well! Thanks for asking. I’m surprised to realize that I never actually gave ppl an update on all this, so it’s nice of someone to ask me about it. The spring semester finished up like 2 and a half? three? weeks ago, so now I’m officially done with my first year of classes, with two more semesters of classes to go. The first half of the spring semester was pretty overwhelming for me, but the second half was more manageable and in the end everything worked out well.
Now for the summer I’ll be working on a thesis project. I’ve taken a break for the past two weeks and just… haven’t, which was intentional but starting tomorrow I’m planning on genuinely getting myself into gear and spending at least ~3 hours each weekday working on it so that I’m consistently productive. It’s nothing super exciting–I’ll be doing interviews with employee benefits managers, people who are in charge of purchasing insurance and keeping employees at organizations informed about their benefits, to see what they know about Occupational Therapy and if that is a potential area for education/advocacy outreach.
On a related note, I went the whole academic year without coming out to any of my classmates because I’m a private person (irl with ppl who aren’t close friends, anyway) and because it just never came up. And then, on the day of our last final exam, most of our class got together and had a picnic, went bowling, and played volleyball/had a little bonfire at one person’s house until almost midnight. I don’t even remember how it came up, but I was telling one of my classmates about how I used to be engaged (something I also had never previously mentioned), and that lead into me being bi, so I wound up telling two of my classmates that night. And interestingly enough, a little later, one of them, who was very drunk, wound up also telling me that she thinks she’s also bi. It was a fun night! Also volleyball is really painful, which I already knew but was given a big reminder of
Aaaand the only other thing I’ll bother to mention is that I applied for a 3-month fieldwork placement at my local VA, which would have been a really good and prestigious opportunity for me, but I didn’t get it. The person in charge of it said I was great, but that there was one other candidate who they thought would be a better fit. No prize for second place, unfortunately, but I’ll be fine. (And yes, the phone interview I almost fucked up by initially providing a wrong phone number was for this lol)
