Straight up excited to be testing an alternative to Lancer’s Structure and Stress damage tables. The intention for them is “more disastrous, but less likely to kill you outright”, while maintaining a cohesive narrative throughout a mission. If you break your mech’s leg and you put it on a splint as a field repair, it oses the importance if it just fuckin’ breaks again, you know?

And so here I am with designs for alternate Stress/Structure, called Spikes & Ruin, that you spend Pilot Strain to resist. But if you roll the same result twice, the second time it gets worse. Your leg broke? Well, shit, next time it would, instead you’re losing a system or a weapon, your arm’s getting blown off instead. Unless you resist it and force it to scale back up.

By introducing more things that the Pilots have to spend their mental states on (we’ve already been Resisting Structure/Stress damage and it’s been AMAZING) we see players toeing the lines between feeling threatened or breezing through encounters. It’s been great in playtesting so far!

i love comparing weird abstract concepts as much as the next guy but i realized one of the weirdest things is that my brain can easily assign a birthday month to any friends whos birthdays i dont know just based off sheer vibes
