For @dp-outsider-perspective-week day two: ghost POV
Hazel Goodwin had died in her sleep. Happily, surrounded by a loving family, at a ripe, old age. She wouldn’t call herself someone with unfinished business; the last thing she had expected was to wake up a ghost. Even less, to find a new family to call her own.
The afterlife was full of surprises.
Hazel looked in death much as she had in life — plump, her aged face traced with laughter lines, bushy hair tied with a satin cloth. The blue tint to her skin was a change, of course. And the red eyes. But one got used to the differences.
Godfrey and her daughter shared the same red eyes, common to all ghosts; though her husband’s skin was a lovely shade of green, and her daughter’s a death-pall white. No three human-form ghosts could look more different, but they were no less a family.
When they met, Godfrey took her last name, all gentleman-like. Of course, he didn’t remember his own, so it was a practical matter as well. But they’d both agreed ‘Godfrey Goodwin’ had a nice ring to it. He spoke it like a treasure whenever he got the chance, sweet old fellow. They’d found a door to call their own, and turned a lair into a home.
Then Marla came along, filling a hole they hadn’t known was there.
Died when she was only sixteen, the poor child, and still in need of a mother’s affection. Nothing but a shade when they found her, the core weak as a baby dove cast out of its mother’s nest. They fed her steadily on ectoplasm until her form stabilized.
She didn’t like to talk about her death day, and Hazel didn’t press. Not everyone’s end came as soft and gentle as her own. They didn’t need to talk about the past or their lives before the End. They had all the time in the world now to make new memories together.
In 2022 I gave Daniel and Dan the ability to shapeshift and disguise themselves as northern ravens. Then I decided that they could also pretend to be other non-human animals.

The drawing on the left has another version that shows the spurs on Daniel's tarsometatarsi. I didn't post that version to this platform.
I gave Dan a fawn form and drew a dewlap for him at first. Later I found that I didn't draw the fawn features accurately enough. In reality fawns don't have dewlaps. I wanted Dan's disguise to look more convincing so I changed his design.

Daniel keeps Dan in a pigeon cage to carry around when they are outdoor in order to keep his other self save. He doesn't bear ill will.

Running from suffocating captivity, there is nowhere else in the world to hide but the notorious Ghost Valley. Memories of Siji Manor and much of his past washed away by Meng Po soup, Zhou Zishu cheerfully carves out a new place for himself and draws the attention of the vicious Valley Master while he does it.
