Often grown as a multi-stemmed or short stemmed tree with a wide crown, Prunus serrula (Tibetan cherry, birch-bark cherry, mahogany barked cherry, ornamental cherry) has the most beautiful bark. There are tiny white flowers in the spring and the foliage provides autumn colour but it is the stem that provides a year round display.

Cherry Blossoms

The season is coming for the northern hemisphere! The white ones are from visits to High Park in Toronto (sakura). The black (or choke?) cherry blossoms (the flower cones) are from the wild out and about. And the weeping cherry and double-flowered cherry blossoms are from the grounds of the college I attended.
