"Zeus the Head, Zeus the Middle: Studies in the Orphic Theogonies" by Dwayne A. Meisner
This thesis contributes to debates about the definition of Orphism by observing three characteristics of Orphic myth: Near Eastern influence
Did you know that Beethoven composed for the earliest version of the keytar (the orphica, which was invented by Carl Leopold Röllig)???

William Blake, The Ancient of Days (1794)

The Intellect of the Father, part III
“So then, [Zeus] by engulfing Erikepaios the Firstborn [Phanes], he had the body of all things in his belly, and he mixed into his own limbs the god’s power and strength. Because of this, together with him, everything came to be again inside Zeus, the broad air and the lofty splendour of heaven, the undraining sea and earth’s glorious seat, great Okeanos and the lowest Tartara of the earth, rivers and boundless sea and everything else, and all the immortal blessed gods and goddesses, all that had existed and all that was to exist afterwards became one and grew together in the belly of Zeus. After he had hidden them all away, again into the glad light from his holy heart he brought them up, performing mighty acts.”

[Orion] [why would he know that]

hiiii what is orphica/what are your thoughts on it
THANK YOU FOR ASKING HEHEHE
SO. I shall begin with how I began researching it. I have an OC who plays the Keytar, and lives in a world with magic. I was trying to figure out where a technological split might work, like when does the tech in their world start being developed differently than in ours. I have a few specific ideas of how I want different technology pieces to look, so I started by researching the predecessors of those pieces.
But here’s the thing, there are lots of areas where stuff splits. Vehicles split at a different time than photography at a different time than phones at a different time than music, ect.
The most important thing is, of course, the Keytar, as it’s a centerpiece of Orion’s magic. So I started researching the Keytar. What was its predecessor, how it works, ect.
What we think of as a Keytar nowadays did come to be on its own as a sort of carry digital keyboard, using pre-recorded notes and a speaker. But the split was too recent for the story. So I started researching what the earliest version of a Keytar might be, just to see if there was one.
The first thing that came up was the accordion, but that doesn’t really fit the vibe I’m going for. I’m going for ‘omg a guy with a gutair/bass/other-sterotypically-cool-string-instrument’ SIKE it’s a Keytar. Still super cool, same silhouette, but overall a completely different kind of instrument, producing sound in a totally different way.
The next thing I found was the amazing, the beautiful, the SHOW-STOPPING.
The Orphica.
Invented around 1795 by Carl Leopold Rölling, it’s a small, portable piano. Unlike the Keytar, which uses recorded notes and a speaker, the Orphica actually relies on the same percussive string elements as a piano, and is much more accessible for tuning than the piano and most of its similar keyboard instruments at the time!!!
Unfortunately it never really rose in popularity, and by modern standards was really just a fad for well off musicians, though it was prominent enough for Mozart to compose for it(though that could just be because he knew Rölling), meaning that with not to much of a stretch, one could say that Mozart composed for the Keytar!!!
It sounds much the same as a piano, except because it doesn’t have a cover it doesn’t have the same roundness due to a lack of resonance, and so sounds a bit more like it’s being plucked. It’s very pretty and it’s very cool
