Oh wait did the Jeebers go to separate homes? :(
They did. I didn't want that, but! But! They were apparently not distressed by it at all, and are very happy. They both grew up around plenty of other animals and so they didn't have trouble making friends and adjusting to new roommates. They were amazingly psychologically resilient animals.
It would have been incredibly difficult to place them together. Jasper needed to go to a home prepared for a pica pet, and he did! Junie went to good people that my shelter contact actually knows, and is very very loved.
I do think it was for the best. I think a lot of their difficult behavior was the two of them egging each other on, bouncing off one another's ideas. By all accounts they are still full of mischief, but are not as difficult as they were together, and from what my rescue contact said about Jasper's behavior while he got to free roam around their house, this change was rapid. Either we were just THAT bad at our job, which we are not, or they made one another worse.
They are happy in their homes. They hear NO less often, which is good. Maybe they remember each other; I don't know how much cats voluntarily think about their pasts. Some, probably, but I don't think they really reflect the way we do. Regardless of whether or not they contemplate, they aren't sad.
Now, *I* am very sad when I think of them not being together, but they are luckily not having that experience. Just me. And I can live with it because they are safe and perfectly happy, and that's all I need. They are safe and happy, and that is enough.
I miss Jasper's little face terribly.
