Hey, can we talk about the fact that one of kdj's biggest traumas is indisputably the way the publishing of his mother's book affected his life. He felt powerless and on display, and it severely hurt his ability to connect with other people.
But honestly, if I saw that book at a bookstore, I would have picked it up and read it and thought wow im so glad she was able to tell her story. I would have fallen into the trap lsk sets, and never thought deeper about how it happened. And this book was said to be really inspiring and the way the other prison women stands up for lsk you can see they sympathize with her story and maybe there were plenty of women who felt seen and heard from that story.
Its popularity meant a decent amount of money was made off of it that went straight to kdj's cousins pocket. Everyone profited from this novel in some way, everyone but kdj. (That's why he's the fool that has never dreamed of his own happiness, he can't picture it, it's always been everyone except him.)
So tell me why, kimcom + everyone writing orv and collecting the pieces they knew of him and spreading them out, not to one universe like his mother, but the eternal ever-multiplying universes and that is what saves him.
The exact same action, both born out of love and despair. One ruined him, and the other brought him home.
Drawing YJH was fun, drawing KDJ made me ragequit atleast twice TnT
Anygays, agression affection!!! :D
EDIT: I SHOULDA MADE THE SPEECH BUBBLE BLACK AND KDJ READ HIS THOUGHTS NOOOOO (next time, next time T-T)
The thing about reading orv as a parent is how heartbreaking Dokja’s relationship with Yi Su Gyeong is. Su Gyeong clearly loved him so painfully much. She is the reason he is a reader. A part of him born from the shared activity that she carefully encouraged and cultivated in him (which I realised now that these shared stolen moments can be everything). There is no Dokja, the reader, without Su Gyeong.
Her telling him after the abusive piece of shit of a father died that they get to re-read the book again was absolutely heart wrenching and hopeful. Then to watch their relationship all go to hell after that? I struggled with it. Because I so badly wanted them to work through the trauma together. Even Dokja said that he could have endured all the media attention and the bullying better if she shared with him what she was going through or had in mind.
I do not want to discount the horrors Su Gyeong went through. I can’t imagine how difficult it must have been and I am in no position to judge how she coped with the aftermath of the incident (goodness knows communication can be so difficult) but gosh, how I wish they got their happy cathartic reconciliation😢
lmaooo chapter 194 KDJ is projecting hard onto his mother, questioning and criticizing his own methods through her.
“she probably only saved you because she knew your powers” <- do you hear yourself???? this is not only what he does it’s what his favourite character does. get a grip.
ORV webtoon’s doing a great job with how Kim Dokja’s drawn. Even with the art style improvements over the years.
Sure, everyone’s getting prettier but Kim Dokja’s like pretty pretty ykwim? Like he’s supposed to be average-looking but my guy’s basically an idol/model in the webtoon
Which is great! Because—first of all PrettyKDJ agenda!!!—And! It makes his different from the other action fantasy manhwa protagonists
I was reading the most recent chapter and as someone who reads just about all kinds of action manhwas I come across, I could tell, that if Kim Dokja’s character design was a bit more the manhwa-black haired-protagonist-in-an-isekai-loser-to-hero story, then he wouldn’t stand out at all
He’d just be another random protagonist going through the same clothes cliche plot line.
But that’s not Kim Dokja. Like literally
In the webtoon when he says throws out some cool one-liner followed by smooth action scenes, I don’t feel the way I do when other action manhwa protagonists do the same.
I usually go—‘hmm.okay’
But with Kim dokja I’m—‘ooohhh, look at my pretty baby he’s sooo cuteeee!’ (Uriel probably does the same but that’s besides the point)
Plus he’d hate it if someone suggested that he was like a protagonist from an action manhwa like SSSSS-grade Regressor or some crap. That’s practically an insult to him (his whole personality is TWSA which is an acquired taste really. Like he was the only one. The plot was so ass that all kinds of jobless people out of millions who probably used the webnovel platform gave up on it after chap50)
Thinking about how theres only little memorable/honorable mentions of YJH's regression, like 999 etc.
Some regression are probably just him repeating it, some are probably just him trying to escape this curse cycle but thats not him the yjh we know kept going... he gave his all on each regression.
