Sailing under the Orwell bridge on the Island Sky. Almost 35 years ago in Sept'87 I sailed out of Fox's marina, Ipswich, under Orwell Bridge on a 50 year old Bernudan Cutter. It was the expedition Enterprise Neptune sailing from Ipswich to Capetown/Mossel Bay and back to celebrate 500 years since Bartolomeu Dias rounded the Cape of Good Hope. When we sailed back under the Orwell bridge about 1 1/2 years later in March 1989 the yacht had been dismasted off Namibua,. I had been in a car crash near Fish River Canyon and dislocated my neck and spent a month in hospital and was lucky to be alive And on the home the yacht sailed through the 'lowest ever' low coming into Lisbon with force 10 winds, then survived another force 10 but EASTERLY storm in the Bay of Biscay against the huge Atlantic swell and some of the roughest seas I have been in, and in 40ft wooden yacht! So strange to sail under the Orwell bridge thinking of the yacht, 'Cayenne' sailing under the Orwell bridge and looking rather battered on her way home in March 1989 #orwellbridge #islandsky #noblecaledonia #capeofGoodHope #ipswich #foxsmarina #bartolomeudias (at Orwell Bridge) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSRm17uj438/?utm_medium=tumblr
