01. FLASH
the party was loud. not just music loud, but people yelling, laughing and screaming along to the music loud. you carefully walked through groups of friends, your camera in hand. shoulders bumped into you, but you stayed steady as you walked through the backyard into the large house.
this wasn’t an unusual scene for you, really. you were always hired to come photograph huge, house parties, birthday parties, concerts. all for the up and coming underground artists.
today was for xaviersobased.
the rapper had contracted you $2,500 for his birthday party.
not bad money, so you took the offer.
the quick conference call you had with the boy was simple. he wanted lots of candid pictures, nothing super structured. he wanted everything to feel real. light editing when you got to that point.
“the more natural the better, that’s all i care bout, honestly.”
and you took that and ran with it.
you got plenty of requests for when you did shoots like this. some clients wanted a certain grit to their pictures, or the wanted something soft, elegant. everyone was different.
but this request let you get creative, a little sloppy even with your camera.
you were currently taking a quick breather in the kitchen, the crowd getting you a little claustrophobic. you were clicking through the pictures you had already taken, leaned against the kitchen counter.
you greeted a few people you knew, before finally heading back out. you made a bee-line for the dj set, seeing xavier’s hair bouncing up and down as he danced.
you knew a lot of the people here at the party, you’d even shot for a couple of them. your more recent project was for che, shooting a behind the scenes for one of this studio sessions.
you held your camera up, working on getting angle right when the boy came up to you. he gently placed a hand on your shoulder, causing you to jump a little.
“shit, hey!” you looked up at the boy, giving him a quick smile and a small hug. “whas good, how ya’ been?” the boy leaned down to speak closer to you, watching you go back to fixing a camera setting.
“busy as usual, i’ve been getting more and more contracts lately. y’know how it goes.”
your voice is steady as your hands still, lifting the camera to find xavier in the crowd with one of his homeboys. “how’d everyone fuck with the pictures?” you asked, index finger pressing on the shudder button.
che stepped back a little as you moved, making sure you had room. he took a sip from the drink in his hand and let out a breath. “they liked em a lot actually. thought ya work was good as hell.”
a smile tugged your lips as you let the camera back down, eyes squinting at the screen before looking back up at him. “good, m’ glad. i’ll talk to you later, yeah?” you smiled at him, patting his arm before disappearing into the crowd.
amari and gunner were stood behind the dj deck, messing around with the music while ok ran off to go piss. the two boys passed a blunt between each other, laughing at the girls xavier was currently dancing with.
gunner had looked to the side of the crowd, eyes focusing on a camera flash. he squinted hard, trying to see who the person was.
you lifted your camera away from your face, and gunner swore his whole world stopped. you were perfect. the way your lightly curled hair fell on your shoulders, the way you held the camera in your hands, the glitter eyeshadow you wore that made your eyes pop. holy shit.
amari looked to where gunner was so focused on, brows furrowed as he hit the blunt.
oh.
his eyes landed on you too, and swore his jaw might’ve dropped.
you were perfect. the way you held yourself, the way you smiled at people that passed you in the crowd. not to mention how pretty you were. it was like god placed you right there just for him. fuck.
your eyes wandered from the crowd to the dj deck, hands quickly being the camera up and clicking the shutter button. amari and gunner didn’t even realize you just took pictures of them.
as soon as ok made it back to the deck, gunner made a bee line for you. amari did a double take, grabbing the blond’s arm. “are we tryna go talk to the same girl?” he asked him, causing the blond to chuckle. “i saw her first, mar.” amari scoffed, he hated the way gunner got about girls sometimes.
“shi, we can introduce eachother n see who she likes better.”
“bet.”
che watched the two as they made their way down to you, his eyes rolling as he let out a huff. he stayed where he was, watching you focus completely on this group of girls dancing. your camera held steady slightly above your head as you got shots of them.
gunner quickly let out a cough, causing your attention to focus back on who was around you. you lowered the camera, eyes looking up go the two males in front of you.
oh damn.
why the hell are they more attractive in person?
of course you knew who was standing in front of you, who wouldn’t? nettspend has been getting so much attention recently, and osamason just finished with his psykotic tour. you were fans of both of them, really.
“oh shit, sorry. i’m totally not paying attention.” you spoke, eyes flicking from between the two boys. “you’re good ma, just wanted to introduce ourselves, xav has told us about ya.” nettspend spoke, eyes looking to the boy beside him.
“amari, nice to meet you,” he started letting you finish with your name.
“y/n l/n, guess i’m easy to spot with this bigass camera.” you laughed, shaking the boys hand. “gunner, n yea, pretty easy to spot for sure.” the blond spoke, shaking your hand after amari.
the three of you made small talk, sharing numbers for future projects- that’s what they told you at least.
you didn’t even notice the way che had been staring daggers at the three of you since they walked over to you. the boys did though. they clocked it quick. they just figured it was him being weird.
the party went on though the early morning, finally finishing off at around four. you were packing up your things, and headed out when amari came back up to you again.
“‘m really glad i got to finally meet you, i’ll be in touch soon, y/n.”
“me too, text me whenever!” the boy gave you a quick side hug before running off to find xavier.
you had absolutely no idea what you had gotten yourself into.
