The Help (2011)

Mississippi 1960. An aspiring journalist and the african american maids. A white woman who told the story about the suffering of black women. Their untold stories and experiences. This is a story that argues about racist behaviours and human exploitation, about social rules and the courage of defending righteness. A story that makes us think about fair and unfair. A story that shows us that everyone isn’t the same, white or black, women or men, old or young. You can choose who you want to be. P.s. Movies like these trigger you, they make you think about life and how nice it is to live your free life. The performances of Viola Davis , Octavia Spencer, Emma Stone and Bryce Dallas Howard are magnificent so as the images of the film. It’s worth watching every single time

[Archetypical Chatterbox] Spotlight (2015) : A thoroughly suspenseful journalism story

Spotlight (2015) is one of that movies that goes down to my re-watching cycle list with its suspenseful and complex storyline, accompanied by the amazing performance of the casts. Throughout the movie, we get to experience the thrilling journey of the investigating journalist team, “Spotlight”, from Boston Globe in connecting the dots to unveil the horrifying truth of a somewhat sick tradition of child abuse inside the Catholic Church.
We won’t see anything remotely violent or graphic in regards of the abusing issue, instead we’ll be served with a what may appear to be tedious information gathering through various key respondents such as the victims, the lawyers, and the inside informants from the institution. But, the amazingly well-written script, yet again, proves that words could do the amount of suspense effect as the visualization through actions or graphics. From those phone calls, interviews, discussions, and constant pestering done by those journalist were enough to give you all the chills.
The next thing that also proves the movie’s brilliance was the powerful performance of the ensemble. Some movies usually single out key characters or heroes/heroines to take the lead, but this movies give me the impression that all casts really do work together to tie the movie together. Both major and minor characters are able to highlight their importance as a part of a complex puzzle. I also think that, for me at least, this is the redefining moment for Rachel McAdams from her predecessor roles proving that she is indeed quite versatile.

American Sniper (Keskin Nişancı), ‘Oscar’da savaşın izlerini taşıyan görmeye şaşırmadığım film’ adını verdiğim bir yapım olmuş. Oscar’a aday olabilecek daha iyi filmler var mıydı, bence vardı. Naçizane fikrim budur. Ama akademi bir şey görmüş olacak ki En İyi Film listesinin içine American Sniper’ı da yerleştirmiş.
İzleyiciler American Sniper hakkında ikiye ayrılmış durumdalar. Kimileri Clint Eastwood’un 2008’den beri çektiği en iyi filmin American Sniper olduğuna inanıyor. Kimileri de boş bir sandalyenin karşısında Obama ile konuşmasının ardından tarafını iyice belli etmek için bu filme adını yazdırdığına inanıyorlar. Bendeniz ise filmde kimin ne kanıtladığı ya da Amerikan savaşlarının propagandasının yapılmış olduğunu bir kenara bırakanlardanım. Tabii ki bu iki noktaya da yorum yapılabilir ama amacımız filmi incelemek ve Oscar’a doğru bir yol izlemek…
American Sniper, Chris Klye adında Texas’lı bir kovboyun, Amerikan ordusunun özel bir biriminde keskin nişancı olarak orduya katılmasını, orduda kısa bir sürede ‘Legend’ lakabını almasını ve 4 yıl orduda yaptığı görevin ardından eve dönmesi ile yaşadığı uyumsuzluğu anlatıyor. American Sniper Chris Klye, Scott McEwen ve James Defelice aynı adlı romanından uyarlanmış. Kitabın senaryolaştırılması ise Jason Hall’a ait.
American Sniper’a objektif bakacak olursak etkileyici bir yapım olduğunu söyleyebiliriz. Eastwood, Chris Kyle’ın çocukluğuna inerek; içinde barındırdığı derin milliyetçilik duygusuna, sahiplenmesine ve nasıl iyi bir nişancı olduğuna dair ipuçlarını göstererek, karakteri daha iyi anlamamızı sağlamış. Chris’in kovboy olma hayallerini bir kenara bırakıp orduya katılması ile filme hızlı bir giriş yapıyoruz. Orduda gördüğü eğitimler sırasında Chris’in âşık olmasına ve evlenmesine şahit oluyoruz.
Filmin hikâyesi genel olarak hızlı ilerlese de Chris’in savaşa yaptığı ilk turla birlikte daha da hızlanan bir akışa sahip. Chris savaşa 4 tur gerçekleştiriyor. Savaştan döndüğünde ise kendisini büyük bir boşluğun içinde buluyor. Filmin son kısmında da savaşı ardında bırakmak için verdiği psikolojik çabayı ve Taya'nın eski Chris'e olan özlemini görüyoruz.
Chris Kyle karakterine, Oscar adaylığına sahip oyuncu Bradley Cooper hayat veriyor. Genelde komedi yapımlarında ya da daha renkli karakterler ile izlediğimiz Cooper’ı drama da görmek beni sevindirdi açıkçası. Hem dış görünüşü açısından hem de oyunculuğu açısından Cooper’a hakkını vermek istiyorum. Karakterin ruhuna girdiğini ve oyunculuğu ile de bunu ekrana yansıttığına inanıyorum. 132 dakikalık filmde yoğun bir biçimde Bradley Cooper’ı izliyorsunuz ve rahatsız edici bulmuyorsunuz. Chris’in eşi, Taya Kyle’ı ise Sienna Miller canlandırıyor. Miller filmde ana karakterden biri olsa da, hem karakter olarak hem de oyunculuk olarak biraz düz ve pasif kalmış. Benim için filmdeki sahnelerinde bir ya da iki yerde etkileyici bir an yakalamıştı. Genel olarak filme bakacak olursak, hikâyesi hızlı ilerleyen bir yapım ile karşı karşıya olduğunuzu söylemeliyim. Ancak şuna da açıklık getirmek gerek ki; Chris’in karakterini kafanızda oluşturmanız için yeterli tüm parçaları filmde bulacaksınız. American Sniper kast anlamında geniş bir yapıya sahip gibi görünse de filmin çoğunluğunda Bradley Cooper’ı izleyeceğinizi tekrar belirtmek isterim.
Oscar’ı eve götürme şansı ise düşük olan bir yapım. Benim naçizane fikrim, akademi American Sniper’ı savaşın ardından kalanlara saygı göstermek amacı ile listeye almış.
American Sniper, 87. Oscar Ödüllerinde ‘En İyi Film, En İyi Erkek Oyuncu (Bradley Cooper), En İyi Uyarlama Senaryo, En iyi Kurgu, En İyi Ses Kurgusu ve En İyi Ses Miksajı’ ile toplam 6 dalda aday gösterildi. Bakalım kazanabilecek mi?
