Born in the eastern savannas of Osiris, Renee was taken from her home at a young age and raised in the New Memphis Cultural Integration Institute to become an asset to the human colonial project. The distress she faced growing up in this environment has led to intense trust issues, irritability, unhealthy coping mechanisms, and a longing for a home she only has fragmentary memories of.

Petty Officer Erin Greene's love of the oceans of Osiris comes from a youth spent in Colonial Navy shipyards and open water joyrides with her father. However, she quickly learned that Navy life isn't everything she believed it to be, and spirals into stretches of dissociation punctuated with cheap booze, cigarettes, and late night mistakes in dive bars, while imagining life beyond the walls of the colony.
