Spell for Welcoming the Spring Equinox 🌱

When the earth shifts back to green 

Spring is the time when life grows again. This process is sometimes treacherous and rocky, but it happens each year without fail. The equinox is particularly important to me, as it marks the slow return of the sun to full strength. Winter, the season that limits my power the most, has finally started to lose its strength. 

Materials!

Fresh Greenery: A nice bunch of fresh spring greens, like blades of grass, new leaves, etc. 

Sweet: A few pieces of fruit or candy. (please remove any plastic wrappers from the candy if you are going to do this outside! All offerings left outside should be biodegradable). 

Candle: Green or white is perfect!

Location: Outside, preferably in a place you see signs of spring. If you can’t go outside, inside near an open window is also okay.  

Spellwork! 

- Take a seat on the ground for this.   

- Light your candle in front of you. 

- Place your offering of greenery and fruit/candy before you as well.  

- Chant, mentally or out loud: 

“You have come once more,

the time of life, 

to let my strength grow, 

through storms and strife,  

a gift I give for you, 

to return to me the light.” 

 - Leave the fruit/candy and plants as an offering, and enjoy the return of the greenery, I know I’ve missed it!

so with Ostara fast approaching, I wrote a little ‘spring spritz’ to refresh your altar space, room, yourself etc!

ingredients:

💐snow water (beginnings, transformation)

💐salt (purification)

💐sugar (sweetness, comfort, encouraging pleasantness)

💐ginger (motivation, invigoration, represent the arriving warmth)

💐pink rose petals (encouraging friendship)

💐daffodils (representing spring and a dash of love in the mix)

💐thyme (inspiration, invigoration, refreshment)

💐fennel (protection)

method:

quite simply add everything into a spray bottle and spritz to your heart’s content! Personally, I like to do this after physically cleaning the spaces and I love humming whilst I spray to increase my intention of pleasant refreshment!

What You’ll Need

Small Pot for Planting

Soil

Coin

Paper & Pen

Seed

Flower

Water

• Cast your circle • Take the flower, pull the petals off and place them in a circle around you. As you place the petals on the ground, think of what you have lost or let go of during the Winter season. Let the petals go. • On the paper, write down what you wish to manifest or give birth to this Spring. Place the paper at the bottom of the pot. • Put the coin on top of the paper. • Pour the soil into the pot. • Hold your seed against your chest. Think of what you wrote down on your paper. When you are ready, plant the seed. Pour some more soil on top. • Pour the water onto the soil. • Sit with your plant until you feel ready to move forward into Spring.

Ostara Preparation and Tips

Ostara is the Sabbat marking the Spring Equinox. For the northern Hemisphere, it will be on Tuesday, March 20th, 2018.

It is a time to celebrate the arrival of spring, renewal, and light. Quite similar to Easter, imagery of eggs and rabbits are used during this time to represent fertility and new life.

Here are some tips and ideas to help you prepare for Ostara!

• Preparations - Grab a journal and begin writing about activities you would like to partake in, spells you plan to do, and ideas for the sabbat! ✏

• Research - Research stories, traditions, and symbols of Ostara for use in spells and altar decorations

• Crafts - Dying eggs, making candles, and creating fun things like that are all fun ways to celebrate Ostara, especially with kids. This year I'm trying something new, an egg capsule. Ill store things such as a reflection of this Ostara, something I made, and other goodies for next Ostara. All in an egg! 🥚🥚

• Tarot - Do an Ostara spread or a spread about renewal and starting again. Spring is a time to blossom, so maybe a card pull about what can help you blossom with your craft!

• Go outside - If its nice out, go out and spot signs of Spring! Write it down and take pictures. Give the Earth an offering to welcome spring. ☀️

• Spellwork - Now is a great time for cleansing, renewal, inspiration, and creativity spells. Also spells to aid your plants! 🌱

• Spring cleaning - Thoroughly clean and rid of the stagnant air from the long winter. Spring is finally here, so let in a sense of freshness. Take the time to thoroughly cleanse as well to rid of bad energies, and bring in positive ones!

• Food! - Make a treat, something special just for Ostara. Honey and Eggs are typically used, as well as fruits and leafy greens. Use what's in season, and make some honey cakes. 🍯🍞

• Altar - Decorate your altar with eggs, bunnies, flowers, pastel colors, and symbolisms of Ostara. Represent the light coming in and the balance of dark and light on the equinox. The visuals may aid you in your rituals.

• Cleanse yourself - Bathe, cleanse, and do face masks. Something to make yourself feel refreshed and as if you are a clean state. Ready to go into Spring clean and renewed, ridding of the stagnant energies from winter. 🛁

• Planting - Begin planning your garden, and start planting seeds! Its time for new life! 🌸🌹
