Tethered to Life Print!
I made 8.5 x 11 prints of Freedom and the Othermind! If you'd like one you can get it here!
(This design for Freedom was created mere days after book 15 was released, so it may look "off-model" to the general fandom consensus of what she looks like nowadays. Feel free to interpret it as any dragon you want!)
Original artwork post under cut:
more md wof au stuff I kinda rush sketched
quick review I basically replaced the abslutesolver with the breath of evil bc almost 1 to 1 match and all solvers are animi. the last resistance against the HiveWings were thousands of years ago and failed. HW basically demoted silkwings into barely even dragon, a flamesilk managed to get out and burn silkwings out of an animus removal enchantment, silkwing animus appeared and at first they tried to control them by forcing one to make a collar that permanently restricts it but it worked so well they tried to control one out of fear. the boe was ditched years before and the othermind decided to get revenge by taking over discarded silkwings. Cicada was the first, enchanted by an infected animus to be an animus, and all goes similarly. it forced some silkwings into metamorphosis to be these weird hive-night hybrids labeled SwarmWings. animus silks get the special treatment and became silk-nights instead
first one is my idea of heart nori who in this au is onvia. onvia had experimented with growing a part of the BoE to control herself years before her death but was fully infected by the time she was able to use it. instead she only had access to the piece after dying, kind of rebirthed into the mindspace of her own that she had reign over. she eventually grabbed a leafwing corpse to control bc being an unmovable plant is boring. I thought of making it a canon character before I remembered those corpses would've disappeared centuries ago whoops. Also yes she decorated the leafwing with accessories bc why not.
second image is n meeting onvia. also there's solver uzi. incomparison to her silkwing appearance she has a bulkier build and some foresight. also have her learning how to fly with webbed dragon wings (n has no idea what he's doing but is there to catch her so he's doing his best. i actually had planned to have swarmwings have nightwing wings and i might change it to that depending on how much im willing to modify the hivewing base like that.)
tawny, tessa in this au. tawny is the daughter of a lady of a hive and ends up being the remaining hivewing royal after the othermind massacre on the hives. she was crowned at such a young age and thus very stressed and full of guilt. luckily (not) th othermind eventually found tawny to know too much about it to live and after a few times the hivewings stopped some infected silkwings, it just sent one into the throne room and killed her lol. and then wore her body ofc that happens in this au but I'm not gonna go into that until the next sketch :)))).
A quick concept for the breath of evil I came up with a while ago! The leaves are supposed to resemble dragon wings, and the petals are supposed to resemble jaws.
Just finally finished reading “The Flames of Hope”, and it’s the saddest fucking book I’ve ever read out of the series, despite the happy ending. Or, honestly, I think it’s just how sad Freedom’s story was.
Her egg was stolen by a power-hungry man, and grew up never knowing how much her mom cared for her. Died as a dragonet, but her mind lived on for five thousand years because of a plant that used her as a host to help it grow and spread like an infectious weed (which it pretty much was). Only given Lizard as a name. Never received or gave any love during that time; lived on with only hatred shared between her and her human captor. Basically forced to control sentient beings until it was normal for her that she felt no need to retaliate having to do what the human or plant wanted.
Honestly, I’m glad Tui wrote this book in Luna’s perspective, because it’s something that was needed. In the few days that Luna was trapped down in the abyss, Freedom needed that time. It may not be enough compared to the five thousand years of misery and isolation, but it was something. Something to give her—show her—that not all dragons were as terrible as Cottonmouth (the human) claimed they were. It gave her a friend in Luna, and in the dragonet that was with her. The memories and the hug she was given; she needed them. In the end, it was all for something. And it was so heartbreaking-but-so-kind for Luna and Dusky (the dragonet) to give her a name worth giving to her, that represented something—Freedom.
I love how this book turned out 💚
Wings of fire zombie/infection(?) Au
Tw: mention of gore, and zombified characters.
Based on arc 3 where the Hive, silk and some leafwings are controlled by the other mind/ breath of evil. Except months past with no freedom for the infected and controlled, most start to die of exhaustion and starvation, through means to keep the army alive the breath of evil attached itself directly to the dragons patching up massive wounds.
Or boom magical shit and the dragons die but the breath of evil is so deeply connected to it's hosts it forces the dragon's systems to stay alive and their bodies just get more and more decayed due to neglect. There would be a small effort to feed them but the young and the old would definitely be in this zombified state. And because of the dragons population they could afford to loose 'less valuable' lives.
Which includes Blue, there is an underwhelming amount of death in wings of fire, and this adds on to Sundew's decision to plant the breath of evil and would add more to her regrets. I'm personally not attached to Blue but him and most of the infected living in the books is very stupid?
Though I am yet to read the final book to the series I'm still gonna be biased at the lack of death. And reading it will fill in some of the gaps in this concept.
i just had an idea.
so i've been getting back into Wings of Fire [specifically reading the Pantala continent books], and i thought 'what if the othermind was in rain world?' and like. CAN YOU IMAGINE? Like. Imagine if. NSH found the othermind plant and is infected by it and fucking. Becomes like, yknow. Plant host.
And he tried to spread it around. and he's growing it. and shit. LIKE WHAT IF!!! I am 100% making this a whole au guys. like c'mon. tell me you wouldn't be interested!! (or don't tell me. idk. i wanna know your thoughts though!)
GUYS THAT CONTENT LEAK????????????? Clearsight is alive? Luna is trans? Tsunami dies? Anemone and the Othermind are implied to be the same person? Sunny x Mandrake is canon?
