Andy: Scenery development
The Work Yard
The Quiet Place
The City
With Andy's world I wanted to create a place where pollution and exhaust fumes don't bother the inhabitants, but it's still a toxic environment and as a result the general area tends to look grubby, smokey, perhaps rusty and just overall a rather bleak place to live.
In particular, the last 4 images briefly demonstrate the process I have used to create some of the scenery for Andy's world. Each starts as a sketch or is sometimes conceptualized in the story boards. For a different but fast approach to generating the blocky shapes I needed while still adding an element of spontaneity, I used an doodling app called "Scribbler" to create the base image.
Then I created a layered, high resolution painting with added length to comfortably accommodate any camera pans.
The final image is a composite shot including a character to demonstrate scale in comparison to the scenery, and I added some high resolution texture to break up the flat colour and add a metallic element to the buildings.
