We have been a fan of steven universe for a long time. Not from the start!! I remember the first episode we saw air live was ‘the test’ since then it has held a special place in our hearts
Steven Universe was everything we ever wanted in a show. A male protagonist who was soft but strong and ultimately saw the value of being yourself of lifting one another up whose role models were all women!! (aside from his dad I imagine )
Steven’s story is a lot like ours and a lot like many people’s. The expectations put on us by our ‘loved ones ‘ from society and from the very one that created us
Steven’s connection with his mother isn’t just because of his gem but because of how much they had in common always feeling like they aren’t being who they are supposed to be
Except Pink didn’t have the love and support steven had to help her fight those doubts because of course it was those who were supposed to be giving her the love and support who were hurting her so
Why Rose is so obsessed with being a nurturer why she feels such a fire to fight for individualism. A fight Steven never had to have instead his desire to nurture came from being raised with unconditional love and support from his family (his father and the gems)
Yes steven has doubt s we all do that we re still secretly somehow our parents. But we aren’t we can’t be it’s not possible and that’s ok that’s good that’s how it is!! Yes of course the people who raise us impact us but that can only go so far the rest is the self !!
Steven is Steven. I am me. I always have been and I always will be!
Trust yourself to know you. Trust that if you don’t believe you know yourself now that eventually you will figure it out and you will know it has always been you even when you weren’t sure or couldn’t see you.
