i wonder if u would one day make an 03 wrath!al/sloth!ed au considering those are their canon sin in 03 (al was more subtle but its there and ed is kinda in ur face)

(there's a lot more under the cut :) but, to start off)

tysm for the ask anon!! I enlisted the help of my au making friend in arms @persephone-the-third and here's what we came up with :) it's a rough outline of the major changes/plot points with a ton of relevant drawings sprinkled in throughout. I hope you enjoy what we came up with!

Trisha still dies as she does in canon, and the boys still set off to go train with Izumi to improve their skills so that they can perform human transmutation. As the boys are finishing up training with Izumi, they go back to Yock Island. When they're leaving the island, Al gets bit by a venomous snake, and dies from the bite before they can get him to a hospital. (evil and intimidating water snake... Al shouldn't have been the last one to get on the boat)

Al's funeral is held, and Ed resolves to bring back both Al and Trisha. On that day, he brings back Al as wrath first, but passes out in front of Not Al from the shock/exhaustion/blood loss of his two limbs (same ones as in canon). Dante swoops in, and takes Al away while Ed is out cold. Roy, who was watching from outside the house in the rain, and saw someone enter the Elrics' house, arrives in time to take the passed out, bleeding out Ed to the Rockbells.

Recognizing the human transmutation circle + there’s too much blood to just be from Ed (maybe, he could learn/research/improve on this boy's method for Roy’s own human transmutation purposes), Roy still proposes to Pinako that Ed can apply to become a state alchemist when he's older and healed, and to give him a call when that happens. Ed decides, once he’s a little older/got his automail, that he’ll try to become a state alchemist so he can use that money/etc. to look for a philosopher's stone to bring back his dead brother and mom.

Meanwhile, Al is wrath, and sort of stews in several types of hatred (towards Ed, towards teacher, etc), while also looking for a way to make the stone under Dante’s direction (he can do alchemy thanks to having Ed's arm and leg just like wrath does in canon, but with more control, unlike canon wrath. He can’t quite do anything major though). Maybe he visits his old home (which hasn't been burnt down here, at least not yet) and sees something he wasn't expecting...

Ed eventually joins the state alchemists under Roy when he’s a little older, and goes on various missions while seeking out the philospher's stone alone. We put him in a bun and the Amestrian military uniform because something about military dress codes and Ed not being 12 when he joins here... a bun's rather professional, right?

Ed and Roy are eventually able to trace everything related to the stone back to Dante, and go looking for her in her mansion. They split up, and Ed finds Al in one of the rooms. Al ends up stabbing Ed to death 🥹 for a variety of reasons (Resentment? Revenge?), and ultimately finds out this isn’t really what he wanted (Why did he even want to be human again to begin with? He doesn’t feel fulfilled by this. Ed didn't even try to fight back...)

It turns out that the path Roy took loops back to the room the two brothers were in, and he walks in on Al trying to bring Ed back. Unfortunately, because of homunculus restrictions on Al, Al can't. And so he begs.

Roy is the one who performs the transmutation, losing his eye in the process. (always the eyes with him, huh)

... and now Ed is back as sloth!! Yay!!!! The brothers can search for a way to get someone else to make a stone for them 🥹 together 🥹 Ed's hair is down now and he gets to wear his black outfit from canon!! Fits right in with the rest of the homunculi's outfits :)

You can kind of take the rest of this however you want but! We're thinking that the Mustgang shows up to get Roy the medical attention he needs, but a conveniently timed building collapse (of Dante's doing?) separates the Mustgang from the brothers.

We're also thinking that Scar is still planning on making the stone, so perhaps he goes through with that, and Dante manages to get her hands on it. Some kind of fight with the brothers vs. Dante and the other homunculi occurs. Maybe Roy finds himself there too (tracking down the rest of the homunculi so he can kill them?) and ends up helping the brothers :) With Al’s combined alchemical prowess, Ed’s water boy movements, and Roy’s snap snap spark spark, they’re gonna get her!!! If you want a happier ending to this all maybe we can bend the rules and have the boys actually be able to become human again by using the stone. Maybe if they use their corpse and the stone together it works... So the brothers need to go dig up their old bodies... Ed has to go dig up Al's grave, and Al has to dig up Ed's body from the ruins of the collapsed mansion. Roy is one who helps the brothers return to their bodies and become human again using the stone, before he uses it to get his eye back.

also 03 wrath replaces 03 gluttony #grath :) they can be playmates who go torment izumi together :)

Extra notes, but we went through a bunch of iterations before settling on this one, which includes, but is not limited to:

Ed having his whole body taken and Al performing human transmutation again on that day to bring Ed back, using up Not mom as material rupture and repair style (instead of soul bonding him) with his voice being taken as the toll. Al becoms a state alchemist here instead (flora don't bring up rnr challenge failed)

Both of the boys dying, Al dying first and Ed second, with Izumi bringing them both back, her hands being taken as the toll

Dante dropping Ed off instead of Roy, but Roy doing it helps with establishing him actually caring for Ed and wanting to bring him back later on etc.

Various ways for having the brothers die... a fall off the stairs, a knife conveniently slipping... almost considered drowning but we did that already we went with the evil and intimidating water snake in the end

We even briefly considered 03 Hohenheim bringing them back but uh. quickly wrote off that option

does anyone else see my vision within the small overlap of people that know both of these two btw. theyre both essentially reincarnations (term used VERY loosely here lol) of these big, powerful, terrifying beings known for bringing destruction and the end of all, and instead of doing that theyre just. silly. theyre goofy and a little troublesome and maybe kinda annoying at times, but they have good hearts and at the end of the day believe the world is worth something because of the people in it. i think they would be really good friends tbh

HI HI HELLO AND WELCOME !!!!!!

this is mainly an au/rewrite of crk thats centered around these freaks (vv) but also contains so much more with other sorts of guys !!!!! (more info can be found here)

the main premise is that ouroboros has been designated as the caretaker of the beasts as children, and they were outrageously horrible at it, resulting in the beasts being maladjusted and predisposed to corruption after they were exiled into a cauldron to boil away their ‘impurities ’ . (not necessarily the ONLY reason why they corrupted… but it certainly did help).

however, much like how a cycle returns to a state once more, ouroboros was bound to return, appearing in the image of a “cream critter” known as cream cake weasel AFTER the beasts are defeated and they are kept a watchful eye on within their respective ancients’ kingdoms (keep in mind that a lot of act 2 IS STRICTLY NOT CANON! though some inspiration is taken off of it. consider the ‘ouropocalypse’ if you want more). of course, the wretched weasel is driven off after a lot of their bad acts come to light, but it does leave the beasts reckoning with the past they washed out of their minds, and it even gets the ancients questioning their own childhoods as well!
