Honestly, the whole recap was going to be me screaming because obvious reasons, but i’ll try to make it decent

Was really a blessing or a curse?

I could watch Claire feeding the animals and taking care of the house for the rest of my life. Is what she wanted for 20 years, having a home with Jamie, she really feel at ease in there. And, have you notice THE VASES?

Im still inestable after this episode, was absolutely the best one at the moment. This reunion definitely surpassed every other i had in mind between Murtagh and the Frasers.

Sam and Caitriona did AN AMAZING ACTING, as always, but in this one, damn they nailed it. Duncan always the precious, he was incredible too.

Also, *unpopular opinion*, Rik is killing this season too, his emotions so visible, he´s doing an amazing performance

I have some questions tho, with the Mueller’s thing. Did he actually killed Adawehi in the book? Wasn´t the Muellers house burned in ABOSAA? I read the books, but that was last year and i forgot, so i´m a little bit confused.

Anyway, i have to be honest and say i´m not thrilled for the next episode. I only want to see Murtagh making some senses to Jamie, and Brianna in the 18th century. The rest...we´ll see next week

“Love is the very essence of life” - 3.10 recap

The main theme that really stood out to me in this episode was love. In its various forms and shapes.

Jamie’s love for Claire knows no barriers. He is willing to move „heaven and earth“ to save her, to keep her from harm, but also to keep her with him. He can’t lose her again. No form of love is entirely selfless.

The pictures of the child he has never met but loves with all his heart keep Jamie from going mad in his cell, in his helplessness. Love can ground you.

Claire’s love for Jamie makes her risk her life at the end of the episode, but it also drives her to consider murder or at least violence earlier in 3.10, when she’s questioning Harry Tomkins. That’s something she wouldn’t do lightly, being a doctor, but she does it nonetheless. Love makes you throw your values over board if there’s no other option left.

The dynamics between father and son are remarkable to me as well. Their first dialogue at Jamie’s cell is amazing (Jamie’s speech is everything, really). When Jamie can’t think straight in his despair and Fergus is trying to be reasonable - „No…I love her too, milord, but…“ -, Jamie says the most hurtful thing to Fergus: „I see I was right to withhold my blessing from ye - proof ye dinna ken what love is.“ But then Fergus goes on to prove he does know what love is. For he considers stealing the keys just as Jamie has told him to, knowing that he will get his blessing to marry Marsali if he obeys, but when he hears the sailors talking about Marsali, he realizes he can’t put her in danger. Keeping her safe is more important to him than marrying her. „I know you won’t give us your blessing now, but you asked me if I would move heaven and earth for the woman I love, and I will. Even if it means I cannot marry her.“ Oh, Fergus. All grown up! And he’s doing it for Jamie as well. His words „I will not send you to your death“ show that he’s not going to risk Jamie’s life either. He loves his adoptive father. „Perhaps I love too much“ - that line undid me! And of course Jamie gives his blessing to Fergus and Marsali in the end because they have proven to love each other. „Thank you, mon fils“. The bond between father and son is unbreakable, no?

Claire is a doctor with all her being, and as such, she loves and values human life. She sees it as her duty and task in life to do everything in her power to fight death. It’s a hard, often frustrating job, but very fulfilling at the same time. And Claire loves her job. Without it, she’s incomplete.

Companionship, or rather friendship, is another form of love. It’s essential in tough situations and doesn’t know any age or language barriers.  

Claire, a woman of 50, meets a loyal and true friend in 14 year old Elias Pound. He helps her, shields her, trusts her. They form a team together and forge a bond. And it tears Claire apart to lose him in the end. But even then, she stays true to their friendship by easing his path „home“ and by performing the last stitch, which is „supposed to be done by a friend“. This scene really brought a tear to my eye. 

Anneke becomes another friend to Claire. As a fellow woman, perhaps the only other female on the ship, far away from home as well, she understands Claire’s fear for her husband, even though she doesn’t understand every word. Without hesitating, she helps her find a way to escape. All the while wearing the warmest smile on her face.

Love is what it comes down to in the end, is it not.

Outlander 3x01: Featuring Heavy Breathing and That Goddamned Gas Stove

Yay Season 3! Here’s my recap ... everything’s under the cut to avoid spoilers ... except for this. This is up front because this face came with a literal lion’s roar in the score:

1. This least bloody of bloody massacres.

For a series that depicts cranial drilling in its opening credits, I thought we’d see more ooze. Like, where’re the good old mouth spider/face maggot shots we’ve grown used to?? Afterwards in the Makers Of bit we learn that somehow the scope of the battle scene was curtailed because of Claire’s ethereal visit but I don’t see how that impacts the budget for flesh insects. AND OK, they aren’t decomposing yet/maybe it’s too cold for bugs. Whatever. GIMME THE GORE.

Also, the Prestonpans episode/battle was so emotional/beautiful. I had high hopes for Culloden ... but it just didn’t compare. WHERE ARE OUR WARRIOR POETS?

2. This situation, wherein I feared a massive canon deviation because for a few seconds I had no idea who was breathing: Jamie or the, ahem, “Mystery Redcoat Sprawled Awkwardly Atop His Body.”

I give you that malnourished Jamie is less than his best at this point, plus he’s been in like ten sod fights by now while BJ’s pranced around on his horse the whole battle.

(also, the shot direction in this scene was so weird. It was so hard to get a frame of them both, even profiles to the camera. It’s like each actor shot the scene with the other’s stunt double and all the footage was edited together at the end)

11. This scene from the very end of every high school movie where the two leads end up in the middle of the prom dance floor and no one else is dancing but them:

Because if this is a plover,* the bird that Bird Whisperer Jamie charms right after his and Claire’s wedding, then Claire’s reaction is just sooooo good BECAUSE, as Jamie tells her, plovers are “mourning always for the lost one – or looking for a child left behind.” Godammit. Right in the FEELS.

(and thank you for referencing a great scene from the books that wasn’t in the show, there, Show. Reparation accepted. Somewhat.)

*So apparently the bird in this scene is NOT a plover. Booo-urns. That’s ok. I’m gonna stick with my theory anyways since the actual post wedding bird catching book scene wasn’t in the show to begin with and so hypothetical Show Bird could very well have been this windowsill species instead of the canon plover (ie., LALALALALALALALALALA because FEELINGS).

TL;DR: Windowsill bird is now Everybird, representing all bird interactions Claire and Jamie have ever had together that would create meaning in their relationship and ALSO VERY CONVENIENTLY provides some kind of explanation as to why Claire stops making breakfast to smile out the window for ten minutes in the middle of dealing with all this angst and woe and unreliable 20thc technology. Because Jamie is life, and life is Jamie, and I’m a stubborn bitch who loves her symbolism.

17. This hijinks causing stove ... yet again:

Someone should give this stove an Emmy. Or at least an honourable mention considering the amount of screen time it gets in this episode.

Also bravo, 1940′s Husband Character. You participated domestically in Your 1940′s Wife Character’s life. LET THE SEX BEGIN.

BUT I HAVE A THEORY ABOUT THIS.

I *believe* the showrunners have every intention of introducing every other white male in Claire’s 20thc life as COMPLETELY abominable so that in comparison, Frank looks awesome. Like if you give me a rotten egg and a cracked egg and I’m starving and I have to choose, I’ll be grateful for cracked Frank every time.
