a short story about an old friend and i

since knowing we won’t speak the same again, i’m trying to forget about you. every memory we share together, i’m trying to bury them deeper in my mind everyday. we were so close, so perfect together, then one single question sent everything sideways. this question was supposed to bring us closer, but it actually pulled us apart. i knew the answer before i asked, but i didn’t know you would take it that way. i see you look at me, and i know that you’re thinking about me. how could anyone forget something so special? but i guess we’re both trying to. we’re both trying to avoid each other because if we try to talk, it’ll be awkward, uncomfortable. whenever i hear your name, my heart sinks. not because you said no, because this bond we had will never be the same. but we have to put this mishap behind us and move on. not necessarily go back to the way things were, but just forget. and of course i will care of we never speak again, but knowing that we have this tension between us will keep pilling up on us and soon it will become unbearable. and i don’t want that. i want our memories of us together to slowly fade into nothingness and go on with our lives with the faintest idea of who we used to be.
