Another set of works in progress: Oviraptors! I'm planning to put some sort of slogan relating to defying stereotypes underneath because of the persistent trope of oviraptors as egg eaters... I would have thought we'd have moved past using stereotypes, but clearly, we haven't.

Calling all Egg Thieves this Easter!

It turns out this ancient tradition of finding and stealing eggs is far, far older than anyone realized!  Pictured here is an oviraptorosaur embryo with the broken egg shell around it and the embryo in recognizable shape.  The Oviraptorosaurs were a group of dinosaurs that lived during the Cretaceous period, emerging 145 million years ago and finally going extinct 66 million years ago.  Oviraptorosaurs came in all sizes, from the size of a large modern chicken (with similar sized eggs) to the Gigantoraptor at 25 feet long and weighing an estimated 3,000 pounds.  The name oviraptorosaurs comes from the Latin word ovum, meaning egg and raptor meaning thief, as early classification had them with beaks and claws evolved for eating the eggs of other species, among other things.
