"jaehyun ah, now -- not that i'm not happy to see you, but ..." he tried not to smile, "but why are you in front of my apartment?"
There could have been a thousand and one reasons as to why he was stood, weight shifting from one foot to the other with what could be misconstrue as nervousness, when in actual fact was, as usual, simply restlessness, on Professor Lee Jongsuk’s doorstep.
He could be out of milk, or sugar - the usual things and neighbour might ask for. However, Jaehyun hadn’t had much of either of those to begin with - he wasn’t exactly the type to keep regular food in his apartment. Water and instant ramen would suffice, due to his rather worrisome eating habits - going days at a time without eating, then devouring every pack of ramen he owned in the space of half an hour.
Or he could need help with something class related - help with an essay, an answer to a bothersome question, or simply just to discuss something they’d gone over in class - but then again, Jaehyun tended not to take any class very seriously. A majority of the lessons he took under Professor Jongsuk were spent with his head on the desk, wondering how much trouble he’d get in if he spontaneously went on a murderous rampage throughout the classroom, painting the ugly off-white walls crimson. Or resting his feet atop the wooden desk, words scratched into it from Jaehyun’s keys, or a paperclip, or a hair grip he’d ripped from a girls hair as he clutched her slender throat, pressing on her airway till she begged him to let her live - the act simply performed to make himself feel stronger, watching the weak suffer beneath his fingertips - no it wasn’t class related either.
The reason Jaehyun stood there, hands gripping the hem of his rather too large sweater, was simply that he was bored, bored with reading every book in the library, bored with his essays, which he purposefully neglected, and the one that surprised him the most - bored with bringing pain.
It wasn’t surprising really, seeing as he’d messed with two students that week already. A small boy had let slip within earshot his chronic fear of snakes - so of course Jaehyun rented thirty and slipped them into his dorm room. The screaming was enough to keep him satisfied for a day or two - but then a girl in his Physics class had been going on, and on, and on about her undying love of hedgehogs. It shouldn’t have been as much of a surprise as it seemed to be when he’d left a folder full of pictures of hedgehogs squished at the side of the road - general hedgehog roadkill - outside her apartment door. He’d far rather hear the sound of her quietly crying at the back of the classroom the next day than endure another few hours of her constant yammering about ‘how cute the little balls of spikey thingies’ were.
So, as one does when they’re bored, they foist themselves upon anyone they consider to be worth conversing with, or bring a reasonable amount of interest to their dull lives, and Lee Jongsuk tended to be a good distraction, even if only to look at - Jaehyun wasn’t going to deny the teacher had a certain…attractiveness that others didn’t. Though he’d never say it out loud. He wouldn’t mind simply watching the man speak for a while, if only to stop the racing thoughts of sticky red substances and cries, pleas, feeble voices begging him to stop.
So with a lopsided smile and a tilt of his head he gave a half-hearted shrug.
“I was bored, Prof. Entertain me.”
