Eternal August Day 25: OTP Day!

Eternal August Day 12: Sumaru Day! @p2august @tatsuyodragneel
Sumaru Cities location revealed!
On page 87 of the Persona Club II: Innocent Sin World there is a map of Japan with a very vague placement for Sumaru.
Imho this is way too West to be where Yokohama is, which Sumaru is based on. It looks more closer to around the Shizuoka Prefecture area.
It wouldn’t be the first time the series didn’t place the city in the exact location of it’s real world counterpart. In P3 Iwatodai City/Tatsumi Port Island have landmarks based on Tokyo but it’s obviously not in the exact spot as Tokyo. In Devil Summoner Hirasaki is named after Kawasaki and Hirasuka (cities on 2 opposite sides of Yokohama) but its shaped more like Tokyo, and for the same reason it can’t be in the place of Tokyo.
I think they gave it a vague location somewhat close to Yokohama but also clearly not on top of it, so not to wright off the location just in case it could be used in the future. (it is a major city after all) This also means when you go to Yokohama China Town in P5 you’re NOT going to Sumaru. But at least we know a better general area for where it’s located now!
Also fun fact the next page reveals Sumaru’s zip code is 666-6666!

Sun boy and Star boy
Something I love about the Suou brothers’s relationship, particularily in EP, is how both Katsuya and Tatsuya grow to understand one another better. Their relationship in IS strained, as Tatsuya perceives his brother’s overprotective and straight-laced nature as an irritant, but changes quite a lot over time in EP.
First, Tatsuya realizes that not only Katsuya does have the best of intentions concerning him (such as putting aside some money for Tatsuya’s future), despite going at it the wrong way, but that he also gave up his dream of cooking professionnally in order to pursue a police career and avenge his father being unrightfully discharged. His brother’s not being a hard ass for the sake of it or because he enjoys it: he also had issues to deal with, a little brother to raise, and the future to think of.
On the other hand, Katsuya also comes to realize how much Tatsuya keeps bottled inside of him (a profound guilt/regret, the desire to make things right again, the pain at being the only one to remember all that happened in IS, and so on) and how little he really understood his little brother. While he may have had the best for him in mind, Katsuya was too caught up in his own life preoccupation to explore his brother’s issues, his reasons for his actions, or his vision of his future.
Because the situation in EP is pressing (with the end of the world coming up), the brothers never really have the opportunity to fully talk to each other about their relationship, but they make enough progress to at least understand where the other stands and the reasons behind their actions. Despite other Tatsuya returning to the IS world, leaving behind this Tatsuya who remembers nothing of the IS events (and of the EP ones as well, IIRC?), the Suou brothers from different worlds have taken a step towards understanding each other more.
Nothing symbolizes this better than that beach scene towards the end of EP, with Katsuya putting a cigarette in his mouth and this side’s Tatsuya offering to light it up for him, saying “My hand moved on its own.”
I’m a sucker for the trope of one’s body acting on its own, remembering events that happened even if the mind has forgotten, and I love how much this says about other Tatsuya’s willingness to patch things up with his brother. But I also like how this could be an excuse on this side’s Tatsuya’s part to justify his actions, considering a few seconds later he asks Katsuya if becoming a detective is hard (and in another line, his portrait is seen smiling).
So overall, while things aren’t completely smoothed out between the two, the Suous are willing to work towards understand each other better, towards patching things up and going forward.
(And it’s really rare in media to find siblings’ relationship portrayed this way. Often, everything gets magically resolved, but in this case, EP leaves off with a promise of things eventually getting better, one step at a time :>)
Persona 2 Eternal August!
For Persona 2′s 20th anniversary I will be starting an event called “Eternal August!” It will be held between August 1st to August 31st, 2019 to celebrate Persona 2.
Follow the prompts as best you can. The day list can be found here.
Use the #P2Month tag and @p2august on tumblr or @TatsuyoDragneel on twitter so it’s easier to see everyone’s art.
Don’t feel like you have to do all 31 days. And being late to post something for a certain day is fine as well.Anything goes. Fan art, fan fiction, or whatever you want to do.
Have fun!
All works will be reblogged/retweeted to @p2august on tumblr or @TatsuyoDragneel on twitter.
