Gone Ahead 7.2

siiigh oh John.... Began my second attempt at reading Pale this summer and have been really invested! I don’t talk about my feelings on wildbow’s webserials on here very often but I’ve just been so totally gripped by the John Stiles & Lucy throughline in this book I have to talk a little about it 😫

arc 13 spoilers & ramblings below

One of my biggest worries my first time reading Pale was that I was soooo very invested in where it was going + the potential for a familiar relationship that it was a little scary to continue. Was worried it would be brushed aside/not focused on (can’t always trust wildbow to focus on the same things I value, alas) and that was too heartbreaking to consider. Luckily (and torturously!!) this was not the case!! Really crazy stuff and really impactful, it’s almost on the level of how I feel about Taylor in Worm where I’ll just cry any time I think too long about it 🥲

I’m crazy enough about it right now that I even made a playlist to be sad to, so for the smattering of Pale fans on here uhhh here’s my super mopey John/Lucy playlist. I am currently insane about them & grieving!!!!!!!

been wanting to draw him since my first read through!! posting a more complex piece with him later (and i may get rambly/spoilery there so be warned) but here are my inital sketches figuring out how i wanted to draw him.

Nobody tell the Stranger Things and Sherlock fans that the fandom for Pale by Wildbow just got a bonus epilogue chapter years after the story ended because of a massive community event where fans gathered clues and hints from across the story, solved secret codes and riddles, and came up with theories to crack a final mystery left in the story when it was still ongoing.

Also, in this epilogue, the lesbian MC and her girlfriend have cute scenes together and allude to having kids together in the future and then goes out of its way to include a character saying this line:

Thanks, everyone, for being here. Sorry to pull a season five Danger Kings on you all, but the situation kind of warranted it.

Man, I wonder what TV show rhymes with Danger Kings?

Silly Game Time: Who are some of your favorite fighter characters? And what do you like about them?

They can weild any weapon (swords, spears, axes, clubs, knives, bare hands, etc.); they can be of any class or variety of combatant (ones who rely on strength like brawlers or berserkers, ones who use finesse like martial artists or technique masters, ones who balance defensive and offensive equipment like knghts or samurai, etc.); they can be of any race or species (from fantasy or sci-fi); they can even have access to special powers to improve their combat skills (magical, psychic, technological, superpowers, etc.).

What matters is that one of their primary skills, roles in the story, and traits as a character is physical fighting.

I've had to think several days for this. Mainly because all my favourite characters are primarily physical fighters, or have that as one of their primary skills? without them being better at something else. Gon from hxh is cool because he's such a vibe that I get, and Barak from the Belgariad has always been a special character for me. Duncan Idaho is also still my one true blorbo, especially in the later books, but those are incredible spoilers for those that are just watching the Dune movies. Yun Ché from Against the Gods is my guilty pleasure, but what he does is barely physical fighting. he does use a big sword though, even if it's supposed to weigh like 5 million tonnes or something I think my true favourite though is Lucy from Pale. Mainly because her fighting is such an inherent part of her, but in such a way that it even supports her Law magic where discussing contracts and Law becomes inherently pointy and sharp while staying defensive.

Your art is really cool! If you want, I'd love to see your take on January March from the end of Pale. She doesnt really have any fanart i think and that's sad because she's cool. Also snowdrop (but she's already got a lot of art)!

No one reads Pale which makes me so sad cause there’s so much cool shit in there and this latest chapter has so much smart people could examine to the point that even i can but no one would listen or understand any of it
