No.1 Kopitiam - Cendol
After we ate the Jonker 88 laksa, we went to eat a popular dessert in Malaysia which was called "cendol". Cendol is a sweet dessert that includes ingredients of green jelly noodles, coconut milk, palm sugar, red bean and ice. Malacca has produced a famous palm sugar so the cendol in Malacca will taste better than other states in Malaysia.
No.1 Kopitiam shop is one of the shops selling the cendol in Jonker Street. It is opposite the Hoe Kee Chicken Rice shop. The space of the No.1 Kopitiam shop is very small and narrow. Besides, the shop only has four or five seats. Fortunately, there was no people inside the shop when we entered.
The shop has a lot of different period packing of coca cola. If you are a person who likes to collect the coca cola, this is a place recommended for you to visit.
This is Nyonya cendol. When we tasted the cendol, a strong taste of palm sugar and coconut milk were around in your mouth. At that moment, we felt very blessed after we had already walked under a scorching hot afternoon.
The price is RM 4 per bowl. As our opinion, we think this price is quite expensive but anyway this cendol is very delicious so it is still worth the try. Furthermore, the worker is very friendly and nice.

Panam Kalkandu – Traditional Palm Sugar Crystals from Pettikadai
Panam Kalkandu, also known as palm sugar crystals, is a natural sweetener derived from palm tree sap. For generations, it has been widely used in South Indian households as a healthier alternative to refined sugar. Known for its mild sweetness and cooling properties, panam kalkandu is commonly used in beverages, traditional medicines, and home remedies. At Pettikadai, we bring you authentic panam kalkandu prepared using traditional methods that preserve its natural benefits.
The preparation of panam kalkandu begins with collecting fresh palm sap from palm trees. The sap is then carefully boiled and allowed to crystallize naturally without chemical processing. This traditional method results in translucent sugar crystals that retain the natural nutrients and flavor of palm sap. Unlike refined sugar, panam kalkandu is not bleached or artificially processed.
Panam kalkandu is often used in warm milk, herbal drinks, and traditional remedies for cough and throat irritation. Many families use it as a natural sweetener for children and elders because it is considered easier to digest compared to refined sugar. It is also believed to provide cooling benefits to the body, making it popular during hot weather.
At Pettikadai, panam kalkandu is sourced from trusted traditional palm farmers who follow time-tested preparation techniques. The product is free from artificial additives, ensuring purity and authenticity. Proper packaging helps maintain its quality and shelf life.
Panam kalkandu is valued not only for its taste but also for its connection to traditional Indian food practices. It is commonly included in festive preparations, health drinks, and everyday cooking.
