If no-one knew about the contents of Georgina's sugar bowl, how did Lemony find out about it? (NCT)

...and why does he choose to keep it such a secret?

I think it's easier to answer the second question first of all: Lemony deliberately chooses to say very very little about Georgina's sugar bowl because it may be confused for the real one - Esmé's. After all, ASOUE is an in-universe publication, and Netflix series, too*. If the wrong information gets out, volunteers and villains alike will think that the contents of Esmé's sugar bowl are laced with arsenic. This may be enough to cause an entirely new schism altogether (which we all know is the last thing V.F.D. needs!) as people will think other people are liars, feel betrayed as a result, and no-one will have any trust for anyone but themselves.

Nice one, Lemo-- Wait a minute, how do you know?!?!

In TMM: Part 2, Lemony tells us that he "visited Paltryville [myself] many years later. It was long after the Lucky Smells Lumbermill had closed its doors, and Dr Orwell's office had fallen into disrepair."

Note Lemony's wording here: 'fallen into disrepair' means the contents of her (former) office are no longer in pristine condition - but they're still examinable.

THEORY: Lemony only knows of the arsenic in Georgina's sugar bowl because he examined it himself - if the V.F.D. taught the Snicket siblings (according to Jacques) "how to determine if a poison had been introduced into a cheese fondue without tasting it" (TVV:P1), I'm sure Lemony could EASILY have worked out, just by inspection, that Orwell's ornament had enough arsenic for potentially fatal poisoning. Plus, I highly doubt the police would've caught something as trivial as arsenic in a sugar bowl, when they can't catch Count Olaf, one of the city's most notorious criminals.

Alright, seems were both a tad late lol. The miserable mill is a good book, i like all of the characters, I think the relationship between sir and Charles is very interesting but I wish ilwe got to see a bit more of it, im glad it got expanded upon a but a bit in the show but I wish they adapted their hotel room scene. I like Georgina Orwell, her name is a nice reference to 1984 (specifically 1984 because of eye symbolism) and I like how her feath was very gruesome in the books compared to other deaths. The concept of a sword fight with teeth is very weird, and I don't know how that would work visually, so I get why they left that out in the show, but it would've been cool to see it done somehow. I like the eye shaped building, its style is cool, and I like how it looks in the show too but I wish they'd kept the eye shape. If I were to adapt this book into a musical I feel like I'd take a lot of inspiration from railroad work songs. I also like Shirley St ives as a disguise, very funny to see olaf in drag. Sorry if this one feels a bit rushed, im a tad tied up at the moment. Unhappy snicket monday!

Lemony Snicket in The Miserable Mill: Part One ↳ “’Out of the woods’ is an expression referring to the fact that woods are dangerous places to be. I am sorry to say that while Violet was right that the Baudelaires were almost out of the forest, they were far from out of the woods.”

I do not believe that Olaf was talking about Georgina to the truck driver when he said “Did you ever know a woman who took your heart and rattled it like a baby in a cage”. Olaf describes while talking to the driver that he was forced apart from this woman because of unfortunate circumstances and stealing her valuables. However, when he gets to Georgina’s, he does not seem to recall why she would be angry or even seems to recall how they split apart, despite discussing a fallout with a woman earlier that day. Georgina then explains that she was left in a water under the bridge (which was not part of Olaf’s story to the driver, and would definitely have been an important factor to tell if the woman was Georgina) and not mentioning anything about him stealing her stuff. However, Olaf’s tale to the driver seems to have been triggered by the name of Paltryville. So the woman in his story must have been involved with Paltryvillle and very likely a member of VFD.

or at LEAST that Charles had a crush on him

Sir only took criticism from Charles. They were holding hands to not lose each other in The Penultimate Peril. "C realizes that S is not worthy of his love."
