Being a nonbinary bisexual adult and seeing 14 year olds on this hellsite argue that the label of pansexuality is inherently bi and transphobic and irredeemable bc of past discourse and that bisexuality doesn't have the baggage of biphobia or transphobia and so everyone needs to get over their "internalized biphobia" and id as bi instead is... a wild form of historical revisionism, lmao.
Like yes bisexuality has always intended to include trans and nonbinary people but uhh... there was an active effort by members of the bi community (especially on this fuckign hellsite) to push trans and nonbinary people out of the online bi community in the late 2000s/early 2010s. I personally remember being pushed out of the bi community for being nonbinary (because no bisexual would ever want "a freak like me") by other bisexuals, not pansexuals lmao. Lo and behold, they pushed us to the pan community, which frankly treated us far better than the bi community at that time, even if we didn't feel the label was right for us. Yeah, "hearts not parts" and "pan is the more inclusive sexuality" are bullshit, but the cis bi community spent years pushing that shit because they didn't fucking want trans or nonbinary people around them, and I saw way more pansexuals pushing against it back then than bisexuals... so I wanna know why we're only targeting the pansexuals here.
Also, on the note of "pansexual as a label encourages/enables internalized biphobia"... no it does not. Society's perception and treatment of bisexuals as immoral and dirty does. Even if people are using pan as their label because they're afraid of how they'll be treated if they come out as bi... how the fuck is harrassing them and leading a campaign against the label supposed to make them more comfortable with the community. That shit is terrifying, not fucking encouraging, and is only going to further alienate and scare away people who you claim to want to help. Other people being more comfortable with a different word for the same thing doesn't actually hurt bisexuals, misinformation does, so let's focus on working together with the pan community to push against the actually biphobic ideas of "hearts not parts" and "pan is more inclusive" instead of screaming at people who we claim to want to help, mkay?
Edit: and this isn’t even getting into the fact that A LOT of people are just GENUINELY more comfortable with the label of pansexual or just prefer it to bi bc bi doesn’t feel right, or that fact that there are other labels than pan that serve as alternatives to bi (omnisexual and polysexual, among others), like…. It’s almost as if people can just….. not vibe with the bi label and trying to force them to by calling them fucking biphobic isn’t going to inspire any sort of desire to be part of the bi community.
