Reads manga style/right to left not left to right. :D

This is an amalgamation of a pre-existing shoujo manga, (A Sign of Affection) and Ascendance of a Bookworm. Since as you can probably see, I replaced the main characters, (Yuki and Itsuomi) with Rozemyne and Ferdinand. I'm kinda trying to 'study' manga layouts- (*cough- great excuse for reading copious amounts of manga *cough) so I tried using a few pages as reference to see what the composition was like and all that. This is my Shoujo example. I've got some half-finished Shonen ones as well, but this was the first one I got on to finishing since action shots are not my strong point. Even if I have the appropriate reference.

And no, that last picture was not in A Sign of Affection, I just have a certain inability to draw anything completely seriously so I couldn't help myself. It was also a case of-

Would Ferdinand and Rozemyne actually act like that? I mean... I dunno if they would, but if it was someone else's misinterpretation-

Which is where Hannelore came in. Because I can definitely imagine her fangirling on the sidelines.

Anyway.

This took way longer than I thought it would, (Random insert- I HATE drawing Ferdinand's profile. It is so HARD to draw!! >:/ Doable, but it is not one of my favourite things. That's for sure) but it was worth it. I think. Looks cool anyway.

Copy Desktop Mode Taskbar Panel Between Screens on Steam Deck

Writing this up for myself so I can remember how the heck to do this the next time I need to.

The Steam Deck in desktop mode remembers a layout for each physical screen it is used with. Each layout will have its own settings for what background to display, division into panels, widgets displayed in each panel, and so forth.

On the desktop layout for the Steam Deck's actual screen I have a panel at the bottom that I have mimicking the position, purposes, and actions of the Windows Taskbar I'm already familiar with using, because muscle memory.

However, since the Deck memorizes a layout per physical screen, this taskbar is NOT present by default on the layout for my 24" monitor when the deck is displaying through that. There is an option available to easily move a panel from one layout to another, but duplicating it instead requires a few extra steps. Presumably because the assumption is if you have multiple screens available you're using them all at the same time, not just one of them at a time.

So how do you do this?

Right-click on your desktop and select "Enter Edit Mode". At the top of the screen there'll be several editing options available. Select "Manage Desktops and Panels"

2. This will show you a display of all the currently available desktop layouts. As you can see here, the device screen layout (left) includes my taskbar panel. The HP24 layout (right) does not.

3. Drag-and-drop the panel from the device screen layout to the monitor screen layout. It will by default be in the same position. Note that this is a move, not a copy.

4. Close the Manage Panels window. This is the point where I can actually copy the panel, To do so, right-click on the taskbar panel and select "Show Panel Configuration".

5. This will show a screen where you can customize the panel. Click on the "Clone Panel" button at the bottom. It won't want to clone to the exact same position, so I'll clone it to the top of the screen.

7. My screen now has two copies of the taskbar panels, one that pops up from the bottom and one that drops down from the top. Time to go back to "Manage Desktops and Panels", and drag the bottom taskbar back over to the default screen configuration.

8. Then I want to get back to the "Panel Settings" window (via Show Panel Configuration), and move the copied panel from the top back down to the bottom on the screen. This is done using the "Position" selector:

9. And we're done! If I check the "Manage Panels and Desktops" window again, I can see the same taskbar panel setup visible for both screen layouts (note that it even scales the displayed widget icons to the relevant size for the dimensions of the different screens):

Ever wonder what the layout stage of comic making looks like? Now you know. Here’s my paneling for the first 15 pages of Dragon Child Issue 10. It’s a lot of stick figures and working out the basic backgrounds. The idea is adding just enough to have a plan, but not enough detail to get bogged down in the weeds.

ASSESSMENT TWO: PANEL LAYOUTS

After getting down a rough script, I spent some time figuring out how the story would progress over the panels - which panels needed to be large (settings) and which ones needed to be small? Which parts of the dialogue needed both characters visible, and which ones would work better as a closeup?

I also tried to make each page a ‘chapter’ of the story - keeping all the setups and punchlines on the same page, and so on, rather than break the momentum by having the theoretical reader turn the page.

I always feel a little weird about adding sound effects... and in my admittedly half-assed attempts at finding a good online source of comic sound effects, I haven’t found anything super useful. 

Does anyone know of like... an online encyclopedia of commonly used comic book sound effects? Or want to make one for me? I won’t pay you, but I’m sure your many hours of labor will be rewarded with like $3 of ad revenue per month. And I’m pretty sure onomotopoedia.com isn’t taken.

I’m already seeing where I have clarity & pacing issues, but that’s the whole point of doing this rough first. :)
