Guess who started watching Daemons of the Shadow Realm this April~~ 👀 couldn't be me, obviously-

#as a fan of fma I of course had to check this out~ (same mangaka as fma)#and it is very cool so far #from what parts I can actually understand of what's going on #(I've been watching it all in Japanese with no access to subtitles so my comprehension of the plot is... somewhat limited)#yuru and asa have some hilarious sibling interactions #so as soon as I can understand enough to properly absorb the dynamic #I will absolutely be drawing lil comics of those guys #but for now here's a portrait study #with 'how I would shade it'#'how the anime shades it'#and the reference for good measure #:)#yuru #daemons of the shadow realm #yomi no tsugai #hiromu arakawa #OH YEAH #yuru yomi no tsugai #yknow #when I looked up 'yuru' this guy and yuru camp was the main thing that came up #so I feel like it's worth specifying #that this dude is the 'yomi no tsugai yuru'#not the other anime with yuru in the title #ye #anyway. I would recommend this anime`#the plot looks like it's goin places #so I am probably gonna try and find something with subtitles so I can actually keep up #because it does look very cool #I just need a tad more vocabulary + listening comprehension to actually absorb more than like. the small talk. ya know?#conversational japanese doesn't include talking about daemons from the shadow realm and all that jazz

#been listening to various melancholy 'brother' related songs again #so I had to draw these two #edward elric #alphonse elric #fullmetal alchemist #you know 'brother' by kodaline?#that song and avicii's 'hey brother' are both directly responsible for this picture existing #it fits the elric brothers so well~#:')#I'm just... well.. those songs make me rather emotional.#and that of course means I have to channel those emotions into angsty fanart #fma fanart #elric brothers #yeye #this isn't really based on a specific moment?#just like. ~vibes~#and that chapter where ed gets impaled #as y'do #:)#this turned out basically how I wanted it to and I am very proud of it.#I did not know if I could actually pull off what my imagination was proposing so this was a welcome surprise~#I also thought it'd take way longer #anyway. I read a lot of fanfiction.

I have always vaguely wanted to make fan art for fics I have read but I couldn't think of a way to do it that I liked.

But after doing the Howl's moving castle project I had an idea. Making tiny book covers!

So here are my first 6.

I decided to start with Silmarillion fics. In general I went with ones that really stuck in my mind, for some reason or another I really remembered them.

#oc #original character #hehe #farrian #if I draw him enough that'll be an actual searchable tag heh #anyway~#this is mostly concept art tbh #if you want the 'what the artist was going for' explanation then that is as follows:#the feeling of isolation that somehow feels worse because you are technically surrounded by people #but you don't feel any real connection to any of them #:)#and some more specific to the story ones:#knowing that even if you wanted to connect to the people around you you can't because if they knew anything more about you...#then there is a very real danger that you would be beheaded for treason #or dissected for research depending on who you spilled that information to~#and the only person who you thought you would be able to confide in has just cut you off completely #and you still have to show up to court and pretend that everthing is fine (and interact with your former trusted confidant)#because if anyone suspects you then you and the person who just cut you off could very easily be executed - or 'taken care of'#fun times~#you have also just found out your old magical injuries may be slowly driving you insane -#and there is nothing you can do about it #:):):)#being someone's favourite oc is not for the weak~#>:D

He's an oc from a story I came up with like, 5 years ago...? Haven't really advanced much past the first draft (about 40,000 words plus tons of planning + storyboard drafts), but if I actually get my act together on tightening up the plot then he'd be the mc of a graphic novel series~

Sketchbook dump from the last few weeks~ I've been doing more physical sketches than digital art lately since a sketchbook is more portable~ :D

First up we have a bunch of drawings of Felix from skz- (well, more like attempts, but it was still fun :D)

Then a page of chaotic doodling~ (the guy with the wings and the girl he keeps glomping are ocs~ the rest are mostly random :)

Then a page of sketches from when I went to a cat cafe with a friend and the cats were adorable~ :3 (there's also a smol doodle of Yuru from Daemons of the Shadow realm, or Yomi no Tsugai which I recently started reading the manga of - alongside watching the anime - it is very cool so far~ I am definitely gonna do more fanart of that series-)

Then some sketching in pencil because I lost my nice cool pen and it was very tragic. But I bought a new one on Wednesday so crisis averted~
