First Look…… Panola Mountain State Park Greenway Trail in to Henry County is amazing!
The trail begins at Panola Mountain State Park 2620 Highway 155N Stockbridge, GA. Although the trail is not 100% complete it is about 85% there with the trail poured. The Henry County Panola Mountain Greenway Trail will be completed in the next 30-45 days. I actually walked it today! The 33 mile long AMP Trail or Arabia Mountain Path into Henry County will provide access to the Fairview area of north Henry County and in the next decade access to the Atlanta Beltline in the Path Foundation vision. A beautiful pedestrian bridge was installed over Hwy 155 just north of Fairview Road Stockbridge connecting Henry County’s Panola Greenway Trail to the Rockdale County portion of the AMP Trail. Henry County will widen Fairview Road adding more trails from Hwy 155 to the existing trails at Flakes Mill Rd and Fairview Rd on to Village Park at 750 Fairview Rd Ellenwood.
Background Data: The Henry County, Ga…..The Arabia Mountain Path multi use trail/ AMP Trail groundbreaking was held today(January 23, 2020) in Stockbridge. Commissioner Bruce Holmes, Henry County Manager Cheri Matthews, and Stockbridge Councilman Elton Alexander worked diligently on this project to move it forward with the assistance of GDOT Board members Dana Lemon and Ray Lambert! Path Foundation Executive Director Ed McBrayer, the preeminent authority on trails in America, will oversee the project having built nearly 300 miles in trails including the Silver Comet Trail along with Project Manager Jonathan McCaig. A special thank you to Kelly Jordan of the Arabia Mountain Heritage Area Board for all his persistence. I serve on the Arabia Board as well as the representative for the Henry County area making sure we are at the table.
