Awesome! Silly question, but how do you cut your plasticard?
@pantmonger Thanks! And it’s not a silly question at all XD It depends on how thick my plasticard is and what I’m doing! If it’s thin enough (>= ~1mm), I’ll usually just use some scissors to cut the overall piece out from the rest of the sheet, then I’ll use my FatMax Stanley knife + my cutting mat to cut more precisely. Sometimes I’ll just go straight to the stanley knife and not bother with the scissors, especially if it’s a small piece that I’m cutting out.
If it’s thicker plasticard (2mm+) I’ll generally use my clippers instead of scissors to cut out the overall shape first if it’s a weird shape, or I’ll just use the knife to repeatedly score a straight line until it’s most of the way through the plasticard, and then I’ll snap it off or just continue scoring through with the knife, depending how lazy I’m feeling. XD I then use the knife to carve the excess plasticard away until I’ve got the shape I want.
Fine-grit sandpaper and/or my little diamond files get used to smooth out the edges of the plasticard afterwards, especially around inside curves.
I have a somewhat more specific tutorial with the general process of how I make custom swords here - hopefully this also helps! :D
