do you ever consider the fact that the best man speech was the TONED-DOWN version after greg had done his best with it

sherlock’s first draft literally just said “john is very handsome and very smart and very brave, i love him lots ... and sometimes i get sad that he’s getting married not to me and i don’t know why but i guess it’s just because i want to spend the rest of my life with the best man there is”

and sherlock was like “so ... whaddya think?” and greg was like “.......... okay, ah ... okay, cut this whole paragraph and also this one and this one ... and yeah probably this one too”

i love the fic trope of lestrade taking john for a pint and helping him get his head on straight about dealing with sherlock

i just really love the idea of papa greg having enough backstory and insight into sherlock that he can facilitate their relationship, and that he cares enough to watch over them like that
