006 | maybe i just misunderstood
Charlie wasn't sure whether he was more nervous or happy to be standing in front or Connor's college's gates with a black bag hanging from his shoulder. There were some clothes on it and certainly not enough money for him to get a hotel room, so he honestly hoped he'd gotten it right and that this was Connor's college, because otherwise he'd be very sad and he would also have to sleep on a bench somewhere. It was cold to sleep on a bench, and he really didn't feel like getting arrested.
Maybe it wasn't such a good idea. After all, they had started talking less and less since Connor had gone back to his state after visiting Charlie about six months and twelve days ago. Not like he had a calendar where he marked the days they saw each other. At all. But the thing was, he missed his boyfriend too much, and he never invited him over or just dodged the subject wonderfully whenever Charlie brought it up, so he'd decided he'd just. Fly over there. Say hi. Terrible idea. Or wonderful. That remained to be seen.
After about two hours of walking around and actually sitting on classrooms waiting for Connor to walk in and be surprised, Charlie decided maybe he should quit the surprise plan and just call him. But then he found a little coffee shop that looked like one of those there are always in movies on the road, with the milkshakes and nice waiter and hamburgers and coffee, of course. It was a coffee shop after all. So he walked in and threw his bag on a booth and sat in front of a boy who was doing something on his phone and looked at him rather alarmed. "Hi. I'm Charlie, can I sit with you? I'm starving." He really was. Otherwise, he probably wouldn't have sat with a random stranger. That was maybe not very polite and slightly dangerous, but he really wanted coffee.
"Uhm. Sure. I mean. I'm kind of waiting for someone, but-"
"Great! I'll keep you busy until your someone gets here! Sorry, but I'm exhausted. Boyfriend hunting wore me out. God, that sounds terrible. I have a boyfriend, I wasn't just looking for a random one, but I couldn't find mine and I searched all over but this place is huge. I got off the plane this morning, from L.A., and I was kind of hoping to get to the place and find him standing there but then I remembered this is kind of a surprise visit so I guess it's my fault, right? What if he doesn't even want me here?"
Poor guy. He really didn't mean to annoy him, but it'd been years since he'd had a proper coffee conversation with someone, and he seemed pretty and nice, so why not.
