okay, random epiphany i had about b99.

in season 3 (i think), gina can’t make an event because she has tickets to see hamilton, presumably with the original cast. in season 6, however, we meet amy’s brother, played by you guessed it, lin manuel miranda.

this means that a) amy’s brother has an alter ego so he can persue his true passion for writing musicals, or b) in this universe, hamilton literally only exists for gina linetti. this explains why she says “i don’t know why more people aren’t talking about this show.”

i know the show is over, but just once, i want david santiago to show up at the precinct and nobody reacts at all. then gina steps out of the elevator and it’s just:

•Kurt Hummel/Blaine Anderson (Glee) -TED IS BLAINE 3000%

•Troye Sivan/Jacob Bix (kind of obscure but I love them, troye’s a singer, jacob’s a model) -Henry is Troye

•Meredith Stepien/Brian Holden (it’s not weird since they’re actually engaged, I don’t take real person shipping seriously at all, chill) -but Meredith has such a loving/dorky seeming personality so I think she’s Henry. Brian is also really sarcastic, he’s Ted

•The couple Jason SweetTooth Williams and Katrina Rose Dideriksen play in that one song Nerd Love by Joe Iconis (possibly the most obscure on this list) -Henry’s Katrina’s character

•Ginny Weasley/Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter) -Aw I’m soft for this, Henry’s Luna

-John Mulaney/Annamarie Tendler (another real person ship, they’re married irl and I’m only including another one of these for one reason) -John posted something saying that when he proposed, before he could say ‘will you’ she asked if he had on sunscreen and for that reason alone, Henry is Annamarie

I have fallen into the Brooklyn Nine-Nine rabbit hole and can’t get out. Also I still love their matching shoes.

So I watched B99...

Okay guys I need to rant about Brooklyn Nine-Nine or else I will explode and choke on all my feelings! I discovered this amazing show only a week ago when I was on Netflix searching for a new series to watch and Netflix (Germany) recently uploaded the 3rd season so I thought I would give it a go. Long story short: I almost completely neglected my uni work and watched all 3 seasons in 4 days and searched the whole internet until I found season four and the first episodes of season 5 and watched it in one day. (I regret nothing!) So yes, I am totally obsessed with this show and therefore I need to talk about what I love about it! Just so you know, it is quite long (even though I tried to keep it short) so consider yourself warned. (also: English is not my native tongue so if you find any mistakes – keep them :D)

Characters  I am not exaggerating when I say that I have never watched a show where I just loved every single character! It is just so rare to see (so many) characters that are so diverse and with different flaws but are still getting along with each other and are even friends. I also love how all their flaws are making them even more lovable and how they never judge but rather accept each other and even embrace their different strengths and weaknesses to solve a case etc. It is really refreshing and so fun to watch how they grow together and really bond and begin to trust each other! And they are all just good people who are kind no matter what happened to them in the past. Their past is not an excuse for them to be cruel or cold.  And most importantly: I love how every man on this show just loves his family/partner etc. Terry and Boyle love their family and being a father and they never bitch about ‘going home to the nagging wife’ which is so common in all these comedy series and I am sick and tired of it. Instead they talk about how amazing their families/wives are and how they love spending time with them. 

Continuity I personally love it when there is something mentioned about a person and then maybe a few episodes later the writers remind you of it again for example when they mentioned that Terry was in Japan for a year / cheated on and then there was at least one episode in every season where they brought it back by showing flashbacks or letting Terry talk about it (or where he tries to fix the Japanese copy machine). I think it makes the show even more believable because all these characters have their own well-conceived background story!

Character development rather than abnormal behavior Correct me if I’m wrong but I often watch shows and think ‘Okay after x seasons this character has learned nothing’ or ‘Okay this is not a development but rather a whole new character’ and I find it frustrating! But not in B99, because these characters are still the same after 5 seasons no matter what happens to them. After Jake starts to date Amy for instance he develops as a person and becomes more mature by buying a mattress/moving in with her or just tries to drink more water. But he is still silly and childish about almost everything. So, I love how the writers show us how he develops but is still the Jake from season 1.

Jake and Amy Oh boy, I’m sorry but I need to write down how amazing this pairing is and why they are my OTP! This relationship is so healthy and fun and just everything I ever dreamed of. They are so different but still match each other so well. I like how they are always there for each other, talk about their problems… how Jake still makes fun of Amy but at the same time supports her and her dreams. I just love that he ‘only cares about being with her’. And Andy and Melissa are such great actors because every facial expression is on point and if I didn’t know better, I would say that they are head over heels in love with each other! I mean:

I also really think that this pairing works so well for me because the writers didn't shove Amy & Jake in my face as soon as they were together. They still exist without the other person around and are still their own person with their own dreams (Amy wanting to be a sergeant). They do not always have to sit together in the conference room, Jake still solves cases with Rosa/Terry and Boyle while Amy works with Gina/Holt etc. That’s why I really enjoy every scene with them because the writers don’t show them together all the time and only give us little hints / comments / scenes every now and then (especially right after they were together) and I guess that’s why I was never annoyed with them. And again: just like with Terry and Boyle, Jake just loves Amy and treasures her… 

This moment was just too real…

That being said: I am sorry for this long post and also that I did not mention all the other great things about B99 (e.g. great writing & humor / great cast / Holt being a black & gay captain / Jake having none of the homophobic shit from his Idol & being a real feminist / All these men showing emotions and talking about it / All these women being independent, strong, smart, feminine & vulnerable / addressing racism e.g. in that one eps where Terry had to deal with the racist cop) I could just go on and on and on but I thought that these are just the most obvious things so I could leave them out. 

I will now start with my uni work and try not to think about how this could be the last season and how my life will lose its meaning after B99 ends.
